SCrews with the 8.8 rear have a new SSM, installing a driveshaft, which I doubt will fix the noise. As far as the 9.75's, not a word, just patiently waiting thinking about going lemon law and trading into an 04.

Hmmm well I really hope they fix it. I don't want to get rid of my 03, love my truck.

Let us know if you hear anything though.

Thanks,

Jag

whine

Took my 03 s/c to the shop for the rear end, and other things. I took the shop foreman for a ride, he acknowleded the problem. I informed him that the rear end had been replaced before, also had the new drive shaft, but I still had the problem. He said they have had good luck by replacing the ring & pinion. So I will let you know of this fixes my truck. I also had them fix the rear Transmission seal, as I noticed it leaking when I changed my oil.

No they still did not fix my truck. They replaced the ring & pinion axel bearing, axels. But I still have the problem. Looks like the lemon law is next. I am tired of messing with this truck, what a shame. I was a ford man all the way until I bought this truck. I will buy something other than Ford next time.

Yeah I did not think it would fix the problem skemker. They did the same thing to mine months ago and it did absolutely nothing!

not Fords fault

We can all blame Visteon for this great problem we all have with our noisy rear ends. Seems they changed some things in the factory and now their products they sell Ford are less than superior. So far I've tried the driveshaft in my truck and one of my techs rechecked all the backlash and other specs in my rear end today. Dropping it off at a Ford dealer next week, will probably have it bought back within 2 months unless a miracle with Visteon happens.

My '03 screw do have a roaring sound at road speed. I'm saying it's the tires. Has 4500 miles on truck.

Rear End Repaired Follow-Up

I have put over 3k on me rear-end since my last post. The problem still seems to be fixed, by reading the other post I am guessing I am one of the lucky ones. If the problem comes back I will let yall know but for now it seems Bartow Ford in Bartow Florida knows how to fix the read-end whine......

Just got my truck back from the dealer. They replace all the bearings and the ring and pinion and the dreaded rear end whine is still there! Man I just don't know what to do now. I love my truck but I can't live with this whine. Ant ideas? Thanks

i have an '02 s-crew with 3.55 gears and it whines noticeably around 50 to 60 mph...haven't had the stealership look at it yet but will this spring.

btw, my father owns an '02 harley s-crew with 3.73 gears. his whined even louder than mine! the stealership he goes to replaced his entire rear axle per a supposedly "new" ford TSB. he says his no longer makes any noise!! guess i'm gonna have to look into that too...

Mine is going back in and they are changing the driveshaft. ( I bet they are taking out the aluminum one and replacing it with a steel one) This is from a SSM I don't have the number right now. My hopes aren't very high now though.

So far there is no fix for this problem, if you get a replacement rear end now, the noise will come back eventually. The Aviators and Navigator revised rear ends have been out for about 2 weeks now, so far so good on the ones we replaced. Of course Ford will want to have a fix for the "high dollar" vehicles, but yet the truck owners get put off till last. I constantly ask my Ford field engineer and he promises to call me as soon as he knows something further. I am about ready to file Lemon law and get and 04.....
BTW the driveshaft doesn't really fix anything, its just dampens the noise coming from the rear end. Kind of like putting a band aid on a wound that needs stitches.
