Capt JJ - have the engineers come up with anything yet? I'm about ready to go nuts listening to that whine. I did notice something interesting. When I'm pulling a trailer the noise goes away. Thanks

Lightbulb Rear End Whine

I have 17k on my S-Crew FX4 and it has whined since the day it was new. I always thought it to be tire noise, anyway I finally took it in to have my windsheild fixed under warranty, (stress crack). Anyway I mentioned the rear-end whine as well since I had read this post. Ford took the truck into the back, and didn't even pull the diff cover and told me my rear end needed replacing. Inicidently they said they needed to order shims as mine were shot. So I am thinking that the Shims may be the problem. Regardless at least the dealership is honoring the warranty. I will post my truck status after I pick it up and let all know if the fix worked.

Beerme,

Definitely keep us posted. My dealer has a bunch of a$$holes working there. Have to fight with them on pretty much everything.

Bottom line is, if you know the fix, let me know and I will take it to another dealer!

Rear End Repaired

All, my truck rear-end was replaced by my dealer under warranty. They replaced my gears, shims and obviously fluid, the whine is gone, I have put 500 miles on the truck since the repair and am amazed at how much quiter my truck is. I am in hopes that this repair is the final cure for this problem. As and FYI I have 3.73 gears and that is what they replaced with as well. If the problem comes back I will let everyone know on this thread. Thanks and good luck to everyone who has this problem.......

I guess I'm in the same boat as most of you. I have an 03 SCrew 3.73 and I'm having the same problem, rear end noise just as you touch the peddle at highway speed. Called the dealer and scheduled an appointment, fortunately they gave me no hassle but I'll let you know what the end result is when I get it back.
