The hum is normal. Everyone that has them has the hum....

Like you, I was somewhat worried when I heard it as well but, after asking around on numerous message boards, it appears that it's totally normal... and, now that I know it's normal... it's kind of cool. HAHAHA!

Enjoy those Xarcs!

One word...UN-FRIGGIN-BELIEVABLE!!!!!

The pictures arent that great, but they do show a huge difference. The original pic is a pic of oem bulbs/lamp, btw. The pictures were takin from the bed of my truck...i did the best i could to get a good pic. More pics of them in the daylight tomorrow. So, thanks RP & Jag for convincing me that they're worth it, and finally i realize myself that they definately ARE!!

Joe,

It's about time you got them!!! LOL

Seriously though, RP and I told you (as well as all the others) that they are TOTALLY worth it. Post some more pics if you can.. Your truck is looking sahweet dude!

Question for you. I was looking through your gallery and saw the harley pedal covers. Where did you get them? Long story short, I have the harley gas pedal cos when I first got my truck, the gas pedal was vibrating badly. They re-routed the throttle cable at the dealer but it still did not help. They called the ford "hotline" and said a new pedal was in order.

So, when it came in and I went to the dealer I guess they did not see it. I was in the waiting room at the dealer and the tech comes out and was like I want to show ya something. Sure nuff, he shows me the harley pedal. He asked if i wanna use that one and I was like yeah sure why not I think it's cool! But, that was last year and it just does not look right with the boring black brake pedal. So.. where did ya get yours?!

Jag, email aac4parts@aol.com They are who i got em from, they are the manufacturers. You're lucky you got that gas pedal, mine to install was a pain in the ***...the pins that hold in the pedal wouldnt come out so i ended up having to drill them out and use nuts and bolts to secure the pedal cover. The brake pedal cover is a slip-over so it should be no problem. I don't know what he would charge for one brake pedal cover, but mine were $32 shipped i believe. They are going on ebay now for about $50 so i dont know if he changed the prices. One word of advice, goto home deopt and get some super glue for rubber/metal because the ends of the rubber strips tend to come off. When mine came off i told him and he immediately sent out another one, very nice guy. He told me that they are in the process of fixing the problem, so ask him about it. Anyway, tell him Joe (cross1848) sent ya...you could try instant messaging him on aim, he's on quite often (aac4parts).

I'm gonna go outside and take some more pics of the xarcs today...looks like a nice day outside. Later

KR02,

You are the man! That exactly the kind of pic I was looking for!

Now, one last quickie for everyone.... do the Xenarcs have a blue tint to the light when you look at the lit lamp or is the light just super bright white?

I would say yes a bit bluish, but from the drivers seat they are pure white. If your looking to replica a BMW or Audi, then these are not for you. Go out and buy one of those vehicles.

If you ARE concerned about safety and performance and not the look, then the Xenarc's are for you!

Well, the bluish tint presents a problem since that, technically makes them illegal in Florida. Unless it is Original Factory Equipment, any forward-facing blue colored lamp is illegal. Picky? Yeah. But there is one local agency who writes other officers from their own agency tickets, and they will write these tickets.

Chances of them being able to, on the side of the road, argue that these were anything but OEM... not likely.

I probably will still order and do the Xenarcs, but I will have to wait a couple weeks until the necessary financial provisions have been aquired. Anyone wishing to help with that may send PayPal.

Again, those pics rule and are exactly what I was looking for. The change is, as I expected, no where near as dramatic as the Sylvania comparrison, but still is quite dramatic.

Where in florida are you? I'm in south florida and must have passed by 15 cops just tonight and none of them did anything. They are DOT approved, so i can't see why they would be a problem. Tonight when i was out i was sitting at a light right next to a benz, and the output was exactly the same. The blue is so scarce in them, most of it is white...the pictures dont do them justice at all. Tonight when i was on unlit roads, to see the impact of them, i would turn them off then turn them on...IT WAS AMAZING! The road was like pitch black and then i turn on the lights and its like daylight! Totally UNBELIEVABLE!

KR,

The lights are US DOT approved. US DOT regulations differ significantly from Florida State Law which superceeds a non legislative regulation such as that of US DOT. Neon underbody lights and those washer nozzle things are USDOT approved too, but we all know those are illegal for a vehicle in motion in most states. US DOT approval is really not a big deal.

Florda State Staute 316.2397, Paragraph (2) reads:

It is expressly prohibited for any vehicle or equipment, except police vehicles, to show or display blue lights. However, vehicles owned, operated, or leased by the Department of Corrections may show or display blue lights when responding to emergencies.

Thus, if there is a blue tint to the light and the officer (mind you he would have to be a severe *****) could reasonably artculate to a court that the lights are blue then you are in violation of 316.2397(2). It has happened locally to folks who install those bluish headlamp bulbs and they have lost in court because the bulb is blue.

Xenarcs project pure white light, not a visually altered light source. So yes, they are different and indeed are not blue. Its just that they could be called illegal by an officer in the wrong mood. I know cops like this... too many cops like this.

s I said, the chance of getting hassle for this is damn near nill. But it is possible. Easy to win in court? probably with a well articulated argument.

I think the "take home point" is that US DOT approval does not automatically make something acceptable under FL (or any other state's) DOT regualtions or State Laws.
