Right now, Crash! is telling me that we don't need any fuel/air mods for a 7lb on the Magnacharger. 9lb is right on the line. I've been toying with the idea of upgrading the fuel system when I install the Magna (and smaller diameter pulley) if only to remove the FMU...

I have got to start using those little face icons....ha!

FordTrk,

No matter which pulley you use i.e. stock 5 lb, 7lb or 9lb it is not required but highly recommended, that anyone with a supercharger kit, get at least their superchip (or whatever chip) re-burned (or get a chip and have it programmed) for mods like a supercharger and at least sometype of trans. shift kit. I think, this is one of the very few things all the "tuners" agree upon...ha!

fordTrk,

FYI, Crash just posted in Magna thread. He said that when you get the pulley, everything you need to install it, comes with the pulley. Thoses pullies are very inexpensive! I'm getting one!

Still don't know what all I need with the 9lb pulley. I will post what I find out, when I call about getting one.

FordTRK,

I just remembered that you have a 5.4. I would highly recommend that you talk to Crash! or Mike Troyer. It appears that when the 9 lb pulley was being developed, there was belt slippage on the 5.4. I do not know if and or how they corrected this problem. There were no problems with the 5.4 and the 7 pounder.

However, another member just confirmed that on the 4.6 crash recommended a chip re-burn, motorcraft awsf 22c sparkplugs and a 180 thermostate. The other member did install a 2 inch radiator core like the lightnings. Of course crash will be back next week.

As far as 1/4 times, with the Magna 5.4 with a 7 or 9 lb pulley? should be low 14s I would guess.

Cool

Randy thinks the new idler will be the fix. He is getting the bearings now to press into the new billet idler. It is going to be so pretty that I have spoken for one and I don't even need it! Be patient for this piece. These things are hand made and He is doing the math to come down one belt size and have that belt fit the new idler with plenty of adjustment left in the tensioner. This idler will also increase the space between the belt as it comes around the alternator pulley. I will try to get some shots of the early stages of developement.

I have an ATI... so this doesnt apply too much. But with my ATI the fuel mods helped emmensely on my 5.4. more than i ever would have thought. Plus it gets rid of the FMU. If i were you i would go ahead and save up for the fuel mods when you get the chip. then it can be burned for them. You will be suprised how much a good burn and the right amount of fuel can help your power. Now i just have insane traction problems. but, life could be worse. I plan on ordering some lakewoods to help out. I am already running 9PSI on my ati. but it is diffrent. so i dont see as much off idle power. i would imagine that a magna with 9PSI and fuel mods would have tons of power down low. (burnouts all day long) But then i will be getting the 12PSI pulley soon..... so....

good luck with your charger

2000F150HD, how did you get rid of the FMU? Did you install the fuel rail or the adjustable regulator? I wanted to keep my 5.4L fuel rail and just replace the FMU with a regulator but everyone keeps saying it can't be done. I don't see why not. I am considering custom fuel rails and an adj. regulator.

You cannot replace the FMU with a regulator and keep the stock injectors. If you want to get rid of the FMU you will need 42 injectors and a 90mmMAF and a custom burn on the chip.

On the 4.6 you need to add a regulator to keep it from being way to fat on the bottom end.

Thanks Skid. I have the 42# injectors, 90mmMAF, and a chip waiting to be burned. I wanted to complete the fuel mods before I got a tune at JDM. I saw the fuel rails pictured on the JDM page and they look the same as the ones I have now, so I thought I could just replace the FMU with the regulator. Also, JDM says the regulator is a Accufab, but Accufab said they don't have one for the 5.4L. Is this just a Mustang one in disguise?

I am also considering a larger TB from Accufab or Ford Racing. Is 85mm too big?

Sorry for all the Q's!
Chris

all you need to get rid of the FMU is the 90MM MAF, the #42 Injectors and the Chip burn. I also got a crank breather, just because it has to be burned in the chip. and it helps with oil "blow-by" i think there is a thread on it somewhere. Anyway, the Fuel mods and chip helped a ton down low. Remember when we had the discussion about the Burnouts?? well..... now i can do a burnout no problem with a little bit of power breaking(not much). On the 5.4 the ajustable rails ae not necessary. the rails are diffrent though, they have an adjustment on the regulator. It can be used to slightly adjust fuel, but i think the ratios right now on my truck are perfect. and i dont have the rails. The next thing i will replace is the fuel pump, simply because the ATI unit i making me crazy. but it supplys plenty of fuel in the meantime. Good luck with your mod install.... You will be very pleased with the results. Are you going to got the 12PSI pulley too? i am awaiting a call from crash and i expect to have it in a month or so.... depending on how long it takes them to machine it. In the meantime i think i will be doing electric fans like you did.
