any powerdyne probs?
I have been running my Powerdyne for almost a year now w/ no problems to date. (20K miles) I hear that some have quality concerns w/ this unit. Have any members experienced failures running this supercharger? Should I be looking for anything to signal a future failure?
I have not experienced any problems at all. I've had this blower for about 2 years now and am very satisfied with its output. When I went from the 7# to the 9# pulley, I experienced some idling problems which were cured with the bypass valve. I've been happily blown ever since.
Hi disipe,
The Powerdyne units are inexpensive centrifugal superchargers that work very well when used with sane boost levels, not more than about 10-12 PSI on 8-cylinder applications.
They also have a belt drive that is engineered to snap the belt which is easily replaced if the blower is significantly overboosted, to protect the head unit.
If more people knew how much less money they could spend and still add an easy 100+ horsepower with those Powerdyne superchargers, you'd see them talked about a lot more.
The Powerdyne units don't quite have the quality of the ATI or Vortech units, and of course no intercooler is included with their standard kit, but you also save literally *thousands* of dollars with the Powerdyne also, it's a great "bang for the buck" little blower for the money, and one that has served many F150 owners well. We have many F-150 owners running the Powerdyne unit over the years among our customers, and they generally do not have any problems. The only real problems we've seen is if an owner tries to crank them up to 14-15 PSI boost, which they can't support on an 8-cylinder motor of course.
For the money you really can't go wrong with the Powerdyne, you should be able to enjoy that supercharger for years to come with no problems!
Good luck!

Output bearing failed after only 4,000 miles! Running only 6lbs of boost on an otherwise stock 4.6L motor! Very dissapointing! Powerdyne replaced all bearings and belt. Good power at 3,500 rpm and above, but severely lacking below 3,500(not much better than stock). Have since replaced with positive displacement blower.Much much funner to drive!
Crash,
With all due respect, my Powerdyne was $1995 + shipping. That is thousand (s) below the competition. That was the deciding factor in my going with this unit. If it weren't so inexpensive, I'd not have a blown truck.
Most competitors seem to run at LEAST 1K more than that.

That was before the price update. The powerdyne was that price but has since gone through a price increase. You can still find some places with stock at that price but it was purchased before the price update. Now the prices are upwards with vortech and ATI.
I guess I got lucky on the price. Must have just been under the wire. The Ford Motorsport dealer I bought it from told me that there was a price increase and he had purchased several units prior to the increase, but I thought it was to entice me into buying it at the moment.
I will check to see if they still have the unit at that price and if so, I'll post it here.
Crash, I am not doubting your integrity here, you have provided valuable information to all of us on the board.

I once thought of changing superchargers. Maybe trying out the ATI. I then decided to wait a bit longer to see what results crash gets with his truck when it is finally done. If crash gets awesome numbers I will consider it but not at this time. Im definitley satisfied with my powerdyne. I've had it for about 2yrs with no problems with the unit.
Crash, can't wait to see your finished product. Keep up the good work.

I have a question about the Ford Motorsport or Ford Racing supercharger kit for the F150. The part number M-6066-T462 states it is for the 97-98 4.6L and 5.4L with minor bracket modifications. Is this the kit you are referring to that is the same as the Powerdyne kit? Will it work on the later model F150's as well? If this is the one you are referring to at $1995, I too found a price of $1999, so they are well within price range. If someone could let me know if this will indeed work on my 2001 5.4L I would appreciate it.
The Ford Motorsports kit at $1999 is a valid price. It is at http://www.oemfordparts.com/ in the left menu under vehicle parts/Ford Racing/Truck parts & accessories . I emailed them and asked about it and they said the price is up to date.
