Procharger Sound
Procharger Sound
I read a post a few weeks ago about the rather loud whine that comes with a Procharger.
Does anybody know if this is from the air intake or is it from the internal gears?
Probably both but I am thinking with a little work I can muffle the air intake sound without affecting air flow.
Anybody been here, done this? What did you do, how much did it help?

there is a clip of the sound on crashes web site. www.trixters-playground.com just go to the procharger section. I personally like the sound. and would not try to get rid of it. but if you restricted the intake it would probably quiet it down. the sound clip on crashes site is with the hood open (i believe) so it wont be quite that loud with the hood closed. but, i will let you know how it sounds when i get mine installed!!!!! should be about 2 weeks for me. ill keep you guys posted.

WHY???
First I am an old fart, the whine will interfere with the Beethoven playing on my Stereo. lol.
Second, dead giveaway to the butthead in the Mercedes or the Mitsubichy, capiche?

Old fart? The older I get the more I like to "hear" the power. I guess I'm a ways away from being an old fart.
Like I said, I don't have the ATI. I don't know how much louder it is compaired to the Magnacharger. If you are "running" with that Mercedes or Mitsu, they are winding their motor too so I wouldn't think they would be able to hear what yours is doing. I know when I am "next to" a vehicle at "higher rpm's" I usually can't hear anything over my exhaust.
I put a decent sterio in the truck and since the blower it stays off most of the time.
I guess, if you can do it without restricting the intake, it wouldn't be too bad to muffle the sound.

Seriously, even though I am an old fart, I havn't grown up yet. I revel in the sounds of performance but the thread I read about the noise level reads as if it becomes intrusive. The writer even got cited for excessive noise from his S/C. My last truck was a Typhoon which was a real sleeper, I want my F-150 to be the same.
I have ridden in a Procharged truck and didn't even hear the whine but I was interested to hear what others had to say about it.
I guess I'll make the decision after installing.

I dont have mine installed yet, but I too am looking to hear the little whine from under the hood, if I dont want the guy next to me to hear it, or anything for that matter, I will just turn up volume on the 1500 watt stereo system
Along with the stereo though I do have a lot of dynomat installed and for those of you who dislike road/engine noise, check into it, it made a world of difference.
