Question Vortech problems

I just installed my vortech kit with the 8psi pulley(3.33). I finished it up last night. Before I took it for a spin, I let it idle till it reach operating temp, rev it to check for denotation(None) then left the driveway(with a grin ). I drove normal at first just to listen for any pinging. Fuel pressure, oil pressure, water temp all look good. So I put it to the floor! Right around 3k is when it started kicking it, but the problem is Im only seeing 6psi of boost before it shifts?Something feels off? dosent feel like its Supercharged? I changed the plugs to NGK TR5 and gap them down to .035, checked the belt tension, etc. What could be causing this? Will the chip wake it up? I dont want to take anybody for a test run because I dont what to hear"thats it?" HELP!

BlownScrew,
Try using another gauge to check boost.I had an autometer gauge the came off calibrated,it read about 2.5lbs lower than it really was. Also a freeflowing exhaust will drop boost pressure(headers,y pipe, cat back).
A chip will definitely help performance but it wont increase boost.
Oh yeah, and make sure all your ducting is tight!

later,
Frank

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? If so, it should jump to above 70psi or so at wot.

Also, how much vacuum do you see at idle?

Possible problems:
1. Loose/leaking tubing - make sure you tighten all the clamps with a ratchet instead of screwdriver.

2. FMU - make sure the fmu is hooked up right. That's the most common mistake people make when installing the supercharger.

3. Inlet tubing collapsing. Make sure the inlet (suction) tubing is not collapsing under wot.

4. Vacuum leak. Check all hoses.

Can you be more specific as to what its doing?

Vac is around -20 at idle. it doesnt feel any quicker, its really hard to explain typing. Fuel pressure is good, 72psi @WOT. Im thinking its either the BOV is opening under boost or something in the Vac system is off. Tomorrow Im going to start with a fresh head. I let you guys know what I find.

Crash..
I have the FMU, BOV, FPR, boost gauge all tied into the original FPR VAC. How would I isolate them? I solved one problem tonight. I found out the belt was slipping under WOT. I tighten up the tensioner and it sounds alot healthier at WOT! but I do beleave there is still a problem in the way I have the VAC set up.
Thanks for all the help!!!!!

Try finding a vacuum source from the throttle body.

I just finished the same install in my HD 2001. It netted me a 110 more HP. There is however a little bit of a lag between 0-30 mph, but after that its like a rocket. I had someone else do the install but if some pic's will help let me know.

Thanks everyone for the help! Over the weekend I fixed the vacume problems, tightened all my hose clamps, and tighten the belt down. Whatever I did worked, but now the problem Im haveing is with the 3.33 pulley, Im only boosting to 5psi before the truck shifts at WOT. I waiting for the chip to see if this helps any, but I going to order a smaller pulley. The pulley I have now is suppose to be rated 8-9 psi? I checked it with two different boost gauges and got the same result. I looking for 9 psi MAX. Im going to add some photos soon. Thanks again!!!

My problem with getting boost was the shifting, did you do any trans kits? when I would get on it the trans made everything horrible, like the trans was slipping, shifting before it should..........shift kit made a huge improvement. Now I'm also waiting to get a chip, working on the next source to get one, one day I guess...............

Shift kit is next, as soon as the wife recovers from the supercharger ..... Good source for a chip is to buy one on ebay for 100-150 then send it to JDM for a "CUSTOM" reburn for 75bones. www.teamjdm.com Ive heard allot of good about Mike T from performace products, but they send the chip to superchips to be reburnned($250) where JDM uses his own scripts from what Im told($75.00), and they are good people just like performance products and mike T.

If you wouldnt mind email me at Cobra46@bellsouth.net to let me know what happened at JDM. I just want to make sure Im not going to go threw a hassle. You also could try www.jmschip.com, they did the chip on my cobra and it work right the first time. They use autologic. If you what to check them out , goto www.corral.net this website is for mustangs, but goto the modular motor section and youll see what works best on our motors.

The last reburn from Mike T for my flipchip was $125....you might want to check with Mike on pricing. Mike doesn't send the chips to Superchips, they send him the code based on your worksheet and he reflashes the chip.

I would rate Mike's service as outstanding...give him a shot.

My problem is not with his skills etc (never personally experienced it).....There are plenty who just love to go there to have him wrench on their rides. I had an issue, he knows what he did (my friends were there too), so I left and moved on. He has plenty of business and doesn't need my business, nor do I for theirs. Called my friend Roger Lemere, he took care of business like I was going to do in the first place, things are going good, and hopefully I will have a chip soon.

Try them out, see how things work out, I'm sure they can take care of business. If it doesn't work out you move on. You don't know until you try.

Blowers can be Hypertensioners

check for proper fuel pressure at boost, and try another gauge.
Also if the exhaust is not free flow it will smother the power gains.
good luck.........
