ati and magna dynos and slips

I would love to see some scanned images of both track slips and dyno numbers with a note as to what kind of dyno was used. I am going to install one of these units, but am having trouble deciding between the two.... Dyno and track slips would be espeecially cool with the 7lb magnacharger setup....

thanks

that was funny... no doubt.

but, i was looking for timeslips from a 1/4 mile track and some dyno numbers from a good dyno. I have heard about SAE, Eddie Current, chassis, centrifugal, etc., and don't really know the difference, but would like to see any and all.

Who here has an ATI other than Skidmark installed? Have you dynoed?

my 5.4 screw begs to be blown... but i need some numbers before i decde on magna vrs. ati.

Last, but not least, procharger claims a 60-65% gain in peak HP from their website. I assume that to be rwhp. From what I understand, my 5.4 puts out about 200 at the wheel.

That would put me in the 320-330 at the wheel category. Is this correct thinking for the 8psi model? Why would I choose a 9psi version?

red (who really needs to be blown badly -- the truck that is!)

Cool

I will post my dyno and 1/4 mile times as soon as I recover from the Atlanta FFW yesterday. It would not be a good comparison with Skid because He has later improved heads and He is a 5.4 where I am a 4.6L. You can see the numbers in my Signature but I can post the graphs if you need them or better yet, I can send them to you in an email.

Yes crash, you have gone over and over, but I am leaning toward an ATI and wanted to see an actual dyno from someone who has installed an ATI on an 01 5.4 motor. Looking for a baseline. Obviously, a chip, exhaust, and intake will improve things a bit, so a dyno with one of those is fine, too as I have all three.

$4000 plus is a lot of dough without seeing some kind of dyno number to give me a "neighborhood" expectation level...

There is no lack of trust or saying I don't believe the numbers, but I am a visual guy. Like to see graphs and stuff...

Indulge my whims and I just may drive north to buy one from you...

I will scan my dyno's in and post them on my website. I will also post a scan of my timeslip where I ran an 02 harley. This will give you a good side my side comparo of a roots vs. a cent. Only thing is the harley uses a 120 eaton where as the magna is a 90. So you will get slightly less power out of the 90, until you add pulley's. I am very busy until next week. I will try and get my wife to scan them for me.

Flats Man,

What mods. do you plan to perform to break the 300 RWHP mark?

The 350 RWHP mark?

The 400 RWHP mark?

In retrospect, are you glad you picked the Magna? Or do you wish you had choosen the ATI?

Iron Horse, I will answer a question you asked previously (I can't remember where it was). If "I" had the chance to do it all over again would I do something different? Well I really can't give you a definitive answer. I have no experiance with the ATI. I like what all the people have to say about it. It sounds very appealing but I have tha Magnacharger. I am quite pleased with it! I wish I could do a side by side comparison but if I could afford to do that I wouldn't be tinkering around with less than 400hp.
The Magnacharger is great around town. I know that I have more ooph than most of the vehicles around me. On the highway I can easily manuver because even at thoes speeds I still have lots of throttle. I will see soon if the Magnacharger meets my expectations at the strip. My only time is a 16.5 so I can't see myself doing any worse. I am shooting for a 14.5 or better. It will take me a while to get the hang of the strip technique so if I can drop a second on my first try I will be happy. I will try to work it down from there. I hope to find out soon!
I guess if I could start over knowing what I know now I might go with the ATI to see if it works for me.
I really believe that if you go with either of the two you will be quite pleased. I will be a tough decision but it looks like your well on your way. You have been here a short time but you seem to have traveled far. I think you are doing the right thing here with all thins info and experiance.
It's awsome to be blown!

Tom

Hey Iron Horse, I am very happy with the Magnacharger. It has a lot more potential to it than the way it comes stock out of the box. I feel I should be at 300+ RWHP right now but I have some tuning issues I am working on. I have a set of heads that I am having ported and polished that should get me to 350 RWHP and My final plan will definitely put me over 400 RWHP but I will keep that in my pocket for right now.

Wittom and Flats Man,

Thanks alot. Tomorrow, I am sending in my non-refundable deposit on a new MagnaCharger System for my 99' 4.6L. This guy said he bought the complete kit at a bankruptcy sale, brand new, and uninstalled for his 5.4. He said he thought he could make it work, of course he found out different. It has been "touch and go" on the deal until today. The price, including shipping is well under $3,000.00. I should have it in about a month. I have to wait on a "new" credit card to arrive, before I can pay in full...hehe.

I don't know what has gotten into me. This morning I took off from work to go get a paintable front bumper cover and I left with an actual Lightning front bumper cover and related brackets! It cost a total of $473.00 and I didn't care, I felt like a kid coming from a toy store as I loaded it up in the truck.

Then, this afternoon, I finalized the deal for the MagnaCharger, which even at the huge discounted price, is the largest vehicle modification I have ever purchased. Yet, a month ago, in these forums, I was expressing frustration at the high cost of mods and rambled on about how I use to be able to slap an edelbrock intake and a holley carb on a 350 in one of my older firebirds (82' with an 89 camaro engine) and make all kinds of power for only an additional $400.00. Heck, just last year, I bought a used complete engine with a documented 25,000 miles for a 95' Firebird for $500.00! Therefore, I have some guilt with indulging like this, but heck, I work hard and deserve to have something to show for all my stress and hypertenstion! ha!

Now, I am already thinking about either a 7psi or 9psi pulley, electric fan kit, polished TB elbow, exhaust mod., maybe 4.10 gears, still need shorter tires and I gotta find out about aftermarket heads that Flats Man is talking about and........

Iron Horse, I don't know how old you are but my truck has been a real joy to play with for the last three years. I have spent a ton of $$ on it and can still see another bunch to spend but I haven't regreted it one bit. I could have had a Lightning long ago for less money but it would not have been as challanging as this project! Congratulations on your Magnacharger purchase and have fun with your truck!

Iron Horse, just a bit of advice. Since you will have some time befor the Magnacharger arives I would suggest studying the instructions. They are on the Magnacharger site. You can check out the pictures too.
I wanted a flawless install. I studied the instructions until I almost had them memorized . It seems excessive, even to me, but when it came time to do the install I was able to direct my friends helping me and dive headlong into the process. It went awsome.
It's really not that big a deal. I was a bit intimedated. I havent had too much experiance with this kind of thing.
I'm glad you have come to this! It's cool to see others in the process. Yes, you could get a 350ci for five hundred but I think that when you take a rip with your supercharger you will feel that it's all worth it!
