Roush 6.2 or Ecoboost
Roush 6.2 or Ecoboost
This is where the experts live.....I'm not a newbie just had to make a new login after a little dispute with yahoo.
I sold my lifted 05 Lariat Screw a couple years ago when I left to go overseas. Well I will be back here soon and will be getting another truck. My last one was the 5.4 with a 6" lift and 35's.
My question is would a 6.2 with a Roush sc be better than a modded out Ecoboost? This one will also be lifted on 35's and will be only used to tow 2500-3000 lbs of ATV's every once in awhile.
The 5.4 seemed to be pretty sluggish no matter the tune/mods I had in it. I apologize for the weirdness of he question.....been out of the truck game for a little bit. Thank you in advance for any help/info

That's completely going to come down to preference. 7 grand in parts can go a long way on an Ecoboost, I'm sure, but mid 500s in a 6.2 is a no brainer for me personally. You're never gonna get that V8 sound in an Eco and a SC'd 6.2 is gonna have *instant* power.
I don't want to start a V8 vs. Eco argument, so this is all I'm going to share. Just my opinion. What is your definition of "better?"

A 6.2 @ stock is on par with an Ecoboost @ stock. Like the old saying goes, though, "There is no replacement for displacement" Even a stock 6.2 would handle what you want to do. A gear swap would probably have help out your previous truck tremendously, if you hadn't done that one. With 35's I wouldn't want anything under a 4.10, preferably 4.56.
With either a EB or 6.2, 3.73's would be fine even with 35's, because the 6 speed auto has a nice low 1st gear.
Heck, you can tow 3000# with a base 3.7 V-6, so either EB or 6.2 stock (or even a 5.0) is more than you need. The 5.4 with a 4 speed was not that good.

personally if I had the coin....
a 6.2 with a roush tvs with the stage 2 upgrade is going to be pumping out around 590 ponies....find a tuner to tweak the roush calibration and its going to be over 600 ponies at a cost however....
yer money yer choice....imo
Supercharger kit....http://www.roushperformance.com/part...2011-2012.html
Pulley and a retune for phase 2.....http://www.roushperformance.com/part...grade-Kit.html

A blown 6.2 would be a hell of a rig...
With that said, warmed on Ecoboost would make some good power and still have a respectable gas mileage I would imagine.
I'm just not sure how much of a limitation with the direct injection there is. Turbo back exhaust, CAI, upgraded turbos(??) and a tune would make one of those engines lively.

from what i have heard lately a roushe 5.0 would be plenty.
3000 pounds is nothing.
i pull a 7500 pound trailer with my 6.2 and it does an outstanding job.
the reason i went 6.2 is #1 i wanted the harley davidson, #2 i keep my truck and typically pass them on to a family members or use them at work after 6 years. I know the 6.2 should give me several trouble free year and be up to any task i have for it.

Dammit JMC, just be happy that your power steering works now haha. No turbo guys yet, but they'll come
Thank you for the info. That made things easier. Now I just have to wait a few months til I get back to the sweet ole USA. You happen to know any technical experts in the Tuscon/Phoenix area? I know I'm gonna need 1.
Sorry slow Internet.....yes 4x4. The reason I picked Roush in the first place is I am buying all this new so it will be a dealer installed thing (yes I know you take it in the tailpipe with the dealer). The warranty though is important to me. Any advice is much appreciated. A lot has changed since I bought my last new truck in 05

I have a 2012 F150 HD 6.2 with Roushcharger, stg 1 upgrade, CAI, Corsa catback, custom tuned. I wouldn't trade my truck in for anything. Love the versatility. Have the performance I want. Sounds great. It's comfortable. It's 4x4. Looks great. Safe. Sill have a box although not very big. And it's just plain fun leaving some sports cars behind at the lights.

A v8 vs a v6? No brainer V8......
