Crash!
Crash!
Hey which superchargers have you and SkidMark used on your own trucks up to this point? I know you have been useing your MagnaCharger for some time.. Did you use anything else before you installed the MagnaCharger? If so, what was your opinion on the superchargers you have expierence with?
The Eaton chargers don't seem to come in a kit with everything you need like the others, and the Holly Thunder is for the 5.4 only. All that's left that I'm aware of is the Kenne-Bell, the MagnaCharger, Paxton Novi, Powerdyne, Vortec, and ATI.
I've never heard anything about the Paxton Novi, and forwhatever reason the Powedyne has a pretty bad rep around here for being cheap and failing (yet the Vortec is even cheaper and seems to get good feedback.) If you have any personal expierence with any of these, let me know what you think...
Thanks!

Cent. vs. Roots/Screw
In your opinion, is the Centrifugal considerably easier on your engine (and in the longterm more reliable) since it does not cram as much boost at idle? (Which is harder on your engine, having all the boost right off idle or spinning it harder on the top end?)
Cent. vs. Roots/Screw
So do you think either the Centrifugal or the Root/Screw either have any advantage at all as far as reliability goes? (Not just the supercharger, but in terms of stress on your drivetrain.)
If you want to get "nit-picky":
The ATI uses a piggy back pulley bolted to your factory crank pulley / dampner. You have effectively added a "lever arm" to the end of the crank, added a force tugging on the crank, and send vibration via the belt to the crank. This isn't as bad as it sounds, just guys who run a TON of belt pressure to try and remedy belt slippage when they turn up the boost (stresses # 1 bearing). I really doubt you will have any long term durability issues with the ATI at 8-10 psi, the 8 rib factory belt has good grip (surface area), and the step up ratio of the P1SC is great for a centrifugal (4.10). The M'charger pulley is in line with the rest of the accessories, so it doesn't add a "lever arm". If anything would get stressed in this application, it would be the alternator, mostly from not taking the time to line it up properly when you reposition it. I think the ultimate centrifugal kit would be an ATI P1SC head unit, Paxton Novi brackets, Vortech's reliabilty / quality, and an air to air intercooler (3 core). ATI's intercooler is designed properly and does work well, but there is a reason that it costs about the same as a Paxton or Vortech AND comes with an intercoler.............cut corners else where.
My 2 cents.
My 2 cents.
Cent. vs. Roots
Thanks for the response guys.... I'm leaning towards the MagnaCharger do to its power and torque on the low-end. The reason I'm adding a supercharger is just to have more low to mid range power on the street, not so much for racing. Seems like a centrifugal kit would tend to be kind of "peaky" similair to one of those Honda S2000 where you have to really rev it out to get to your power band. It seems like most of the power on a stock 4.6 comes after 3000 rpms, so it would seem atleast between the power band being where it's at and the centrifugal blower producing most of its power on the top end that you'd really be pushing it/revving it moreso than a roots/screw.
WHITE TRASH
When you come back under another name I have a few questions. Why would you use the paxton brackets? Why the 3 core air to air? The 2 core works just fine without the added bulk of a 3rd core. Now for High boost levels 3 core is only way to go.
