Let me ask you this, I don't see you taking the bolt off by muscle. You would simply turn the pulley. How did you hold the crank still? Did you pull the breaker bar on and crank the engine with the bar wedged against the frame? If you were turning the bolt to the right you tightened it so much it broke

Well to what I know you turn the bolt to the left. If you turned it to the right the good news is an easy out may work

What a newbie! I definitely was thinking it's reverse threads!

My shop manual shows righty tighty & lefty loosey. That is what I did to change to an under drive pulley and back again.

I believe the supercharger drive pulley is what they're talking about in your referenced thread, as it is right hand thread. The supercharger drive pulley was screwed into an adapter that was bolted to the 3 holes in the crank pulley.

So do I use a 1/4" reverse bit? I bought a 5/16 but that's pretty much what the bolt meat is.

Question

Well "thesvtman" .... lot's of confusion over just what you have I see. Now you say the 5/16 bit is near as big as the bolt?

I thought you were talking about the bolt in the end of the crank snout? And while a blower motor might be left threaded, most motors I've messed with are right threaded.

So .... what have you got? Which bolt are you talking about and what vehicle?

Don't know about your's, but my set has several sizes and the bigger ones are like ... "bigger". I've seen it done before .... on right hand threaded bolts. Now, if he's got a left hand threaded bolt, an E Z Out ain't gonna get it.

And now he's saying 5/16 is almost as big as the bolt?

When I'm saying 5/16 I'm meaning the inside not including threads. The part im most concerned about when drilling and EZ out...

Sorry guys this is getting confusing! 2001 F150 5.4 which I thought was reverse thread and over torqued the bolt snapping it off. It is the crank bolt and I'm removing the stock harmonic balancer to install the threaded lightning balancer.

It's the threads on that Lightning balancer where the drive bolt screws into the dampener that are reverse thread, not your crank pulley bolt. If the crank bolt is the same size as the 04-08s, and I don't know why it would be different, it's a 12 mm x 1.5 x 52.5mm.

You could have saved a lot of trouble and weight by just installing the Metco pulley system for the Lightnings on your stock pulley.

There is a God! I soaked it in penetrating oil over night and went to center punch it and it started to rattle! 3 taps and I spun it out with a pick!
