Hey Fatherford u seem to be pretty knowledble and I have a question. I have the roush supercharger on my 06 f150 with the 5.4 engine. I have 2 options for more horse power.
Option 1 Comp cam set $730.00, labor $500.00 and custom tune $450.00 total $1680.00
Option 2 Smaller lower pulley $150.00, colder plugs$110.00 custom tune $435.00 and labor $300.00 total$995.00

Which would give me more horsepower and would be safer for my engine this is my daily driver.
Also does JDM do good work?
If anyone else has any feed back please chime in thanks.
David

You don't want a smaller pulley, you want a larger lower pulley for more boost. I would go option 2, in fact I already have. Why the $300 labor change. Installing a lower pulley is not a difficult job. I'd put colder plugs in either option.

Since you're already supercharged, I doubt the cams will add that much power and stay within the stock operating range. You don't want to extend the rpm range of your engine for reliability reasons. A higher rev point with a supercharger and you better have a built short block.

The $300.00 labor charge is to do the pulley and plugs. Do you think i should go with 4.10 gears since i currently have #3.55 on my truck? Also how much rwhp do u think i will gain with option #2???
Thanks for the input.

Pulley, gears, and tune....

The cams really don't start helping from the graphs I see from 4400 and up.

amen on that

Cam will end up moving power curve up the rpm band as well and the 5.4 really doesn't want to spin to fast. So if you have a daily driver like mine, Eaton boost is the way to go.

You can do the plugs and lower pulley yourself and I agree that I would definitely go with more gear ratio at some time in the future.

How hard is it to change the pully dont I also need to change the belt to? What do you think a set of gears would run me ? I got a quote for a set of 4.10 installed for $800.00

Not sure what pulley you have on bottom. Aftermarket are easy remove with 3 Allen headed bolts. If 2 ring either remove whole unit or remove 6 Allen bolts. If stock Ford caged lower pulley its sometimes harder. There is an adapter that drives the pulley that gets stock in the pulley making it hard to remove. Belt sizes below. As far as gears, $800 seems high to me. Would think $500 would be the highest I would go.

all belt part numbers....for gatorback 4080xxx IE 69 inch belt 4080690, 69.5 inch belt 4080695
for gates k080xxx

(L)stock Lower 7.5/stock upper 2.93-66" belt
(HD)Stock Lower 7.5/stock upper 3.25-67" belt

stock lower/2.75" upper/stock idlers-65.5" belt
stock lower/2.8" upper/stock idlers-66"

4lb (8.5") lower/2.75" upper/stock idlers-
4lb lower/2.93" upper/stock idlers-67.5"(very tight)
4lb lower/3.25" upper/stock idlers-68.5"

6lb (9") lower/2.7"upper/stock idlers-68"
6lb lower/2.93 upper/stock idlers-68.5"/69"
6lb lower/3.25 upper/69"(tight)

8lb lower/2.75" upper/stock idlers-67"
8lb lower/3.25" upper/stock idlers-68"

10lb (10")lower/2.93 upper/stock idlers-72"

depends how mechanically inclined you are... I think its simple, just time consuming, pop the valve covers and hold the cam gears up
