No, because this does not disable the bypass valve. It just makes it close sooner when you lean on it.

When it does close the bypass the engine is under load so it doesn't surge.

If you try the mod you will be delighted with the results.

The problem with the Stock ATI surge valve, that is what they call it, is that it leaks. While this solution will close any valve sooner it will not address the leaking valve. I have discovered that the bore of the valve is not straight. IOW it is not round. I had a shop machine a new valve that took care of most of the leak but they measured the diameter at the end and cut the plate so it would sit at a 5 degree angle when closed. It still leaked. I then added some putty and closed the valve on it and it filled the gap. There should not have been any gap. I will get back to them and see if they can machine the bore of my ATI valve so it is perfectly round.

A surge valve, bypass valve etc. They are the same thing.

JMC- I think your worrying a little too much about the small leak of the bypass. If your spending money on the stock one do like tarajerame says and get an aftermarket valve. You could have bought a new one by now depending on what they are charging you for machining.
For the small amount of boost you are loosing from the bypass has very little effect on the power. You aren`t loosing lbs of boost, maybe .1 lb at most....

Depending on the type of aftermarket bypass you are using it might be as good or better then this mod on a stock valve. You can try this with your aftermarket bypass, it will accomplish the same thing.

Mods to the ATI valve are free. Don't worry if it was costing me I would purchase a new bypass valve. I am just pig headed. I want the ATI valve to function in the way that I think it should. I contacted them and they build it to leak on purpose. Go figure.

I vaguely remember the pic you posted of the ATI bypass as looking a bit medieval. I know there are cost effective alternatives out there.
