Matt, i bet you have 3.73 gears and that is what kill our trucks, just install 4.56 gears and you gonna get that 1 second and please don't hear all the bull... about people saying that the gear upgrade will kill your top speed. Just to give you one example, what is the fastest four doors truck today ? Dodge Ram SRT-10 right, that has 4.56 gears from factory, awesome 0-60mph and 1/4 mile. I am not telling you this because i heard or read something, i am telling you that because i did the 4.56 gears upgrade and that was the best thing to make my truck run faster, my own experience dude no bull...

 

Well, I do a lot of highway driving, and having it cruise at 1900 rpm is a plus. And as far as it killing top end....yeah I'm with you there, these trucks are geared to run like 195 mph @ 5300RPM in top gear, and its never gonna see that......so a little gear wouldn't hurt that at all. I would have to change the front and rear also since I'm 4x4.....Good idea though. I want more info on this intercooler kit. 445hp and 508 torque sounds nice.........

And according to a 1/4 mile calculator with 5750lbs, adding this intercooler kit will take my 14.72 and turn it into a 14.35 ........not bad for a fullsize supercab 4x4!!!!

 

Get the intercooler and add 4.56 gears and you will see mid 13s 1/4 mile times.

 

Word i'm hearin is that the 24th is a projected release date for te hwhole intercooled s/c; kit to come out later. Reprogramming of pcm will be required just like the original Roush.

I agree on the gears. Now if I can find some.

 

I do about 70% city driving with my screw 2wd and I have 3.55 gears.
I currently avg overall 12.3mpg basically regardless of my driving habits.

About what kind of hit should I expect switching to the 4.56 gearing? and how considerable would the bump in speed/power be?

also, any idea of an avg price in SD for a 2wd 4.56 gear swap?

Your case it's a lot better because you are a 2WD then will be half of the cost, around $700,00 including parts and labor. Your mileage will be almost the same becuse you will have a lot more torque in low speeds then your truck won't downshift all the time when you need more torque as the torque is already there. There is no power gains because that is not an engine modification. The gear upgrade will be a change on the way you put the engine's power on the wheels reflecting a huge increase in acceleration and TOP SPEED TOO, the opposite that many people says.

There will be obvious questions for us Rousharger owners. Like

1. What will the new boost be? Do existing owners require a pulley swap?
2. Will the new setup still maintain the warranty for existing Roush owners?
3. Can the vehicle be calibrated at the dealership or does the ECU need shipped out?

 

According to that "dewy ford" site I linked to, it is 7.5 psi and covered under the same warranty as the previous model. It would require a smaller pulley to make more boost, but it would still be safe due to the cooling of the air. The computer would need to be reflashed as well I'm sure....That means the upgrade kit would have to include all of this and will probably be a LOT!

 

I'm guessing $1800.

Hi, Matt. The reason you haven't seen anything yet on this new Roushcharger is that it is just coming out as a new kit. The new complete kit retails for $5,899, not including installation. Roush also plans to offer an upgrade kit, which is what you'll want, and that will include an intercooler and a new upper intake manifold. I just talked to the guy at Roush that handles this stufff, and he said the upgrade kit should be ready in April. No pricing yet on the upgrade kit, but he told me he'd let me know as soon as he had the details. The upgrade kit will have to be installed by an authorized Ford Roush dealer to have the warranty apply (the balance of your 3 year, 36,000 mile new vehicle warranty or, if that has expired you get 1 year on the Roush parts). So the 6psi kit retails for $5199 and the intercooled 7.5 psi kit retails for $5899........a $700 difference. Hopefully this means the upgrade will be less than $1,000 and possibly they will offer a core exchange of your old intake manifold.....

 

new upper intake? sounds like this will be almost as much of a PITA as the original kit itself oh well as long that fan doesnt have to come off again ill be happy

hopefully someone here will volunteer to be the guinea pig and let us know if its worth it

 

I think Matt's got your back there smok[]n, but if Roush says April, it'll probably be October before he'll be installing. Can't say whipple was any better with their timelines, they kept us waiting for 2 years!
