Superchargers are definitely worth it. Many people piddle their money away with minor bolt-ons. The money adds up fast and could be put to better use by reducing the initial cost of the supercharger. They kick your *** and you grin all the time.

Yes its worth it!! The question you should be asking is "Which supercharger should I buy?" Do a search, and you will find that there are many choices (Vortec, ATI, Allen, Powerdyne, Kenne Bell). Now depending on how much money you want to spend, depends on which one... In my opinion, there are only three choices.. Allen, ATI, KB.

Allen.. Pros- Great off idle power, full boost at 2000rpm, factory look, intercooled, runs great out of the box without any upgrades, and unless your into the pedal a bit, no one can tell theres a blower under your hood.
Cons- The most expensive kit out of the three, due to replacing the stock manifold, installation is a little more involved.
Depending on which batch you get, you may get a bolted on pulley, or a pressed on. If you go with Allen, tell them you will only buy it if it has a bolt on pulley, this way you can upgrade from 5psi to 7psi of boost.

ATI (Procharger)... Pros- Easy installation, reliable system, has the most HP increase, dedicated drive belt, intercooled, easy to upgrade the boost.
Cons- Little noisy, even at idle, little lacking in low rpms (some will dispute this, but read previous posts, this is coming from ATI owners!) changing oil in blower every 3-6k (depending on who you talk too).

Kenne Bell-- Pros- Very easy installation, due to the effiency of the blower, has no intercooler (stock boost level), great low end power.
Cons-Non intercooled, if upgrading to more boost, you need to run water injection to stop detonation, boost-a-pump is not a good way to increase fuel pressure.

I am a little bias, and would recommend the Allen. Of course I have not driven a ATI or KB equipped truck, so ........
Do LOTS of research. List if you have 4X4, your expectations, and what you plan to do with it (offroading, towing, 1/4 mile runs, light to light racing ect...)

Check out my gallery, it shows my Allen installation.
Good luck, and keep us informed. And no matter what system you choose, talk to Crash (Im sure he will chime in). Crash sells all but the KB (?), and he can give you a great price, and of course his expertise

I would recommend speaking to Mike at www.Madenterprise.com He is a no nonsense mechanical genius. After over two years on these boards, he is one of the few participants that offer proven results.

He designed the harmonic balancer used on our F150s. He currently designs parts for centrifugal superchargers and the roots lightning supercharger upgrades/conversion. He has owned turbo charged Typhoons (GMC truck), installed an ATI centrifugal kit and then designed parts for upgrading it. He is also designing parts for a prototype ATI kit for lightnings AND currently has removed the ATI kit from his own truck and performed a Lightning conversion to his F150. He also offers lightning supercharger system upgrades as well as, a supercharger conversion kit for our F150s. ........he also restores award winning exotic sports cars from the ground up!

If you want no nonsense and technically reliable advice about what application will meet your particular needs, email or call this guy.......and thats the truth! Good luck!

My neighbor is the service manager at the dealership and will hook me up with his Superchager tech expert and convert this truck to a SCAB/4X4/LIGHTNING!!!

THANKS CRASH

This is definitely true. That is why we went with him for all supporting mods! The quality of his products are excellent. We have seen great improvement in efficiency in the ducts and you can't kill his fan controllers or pumps!

And yes, Max is right. I think getting a blower is worth it. You get the grin factor everyday, and no wasting money on a bunch of bolt-ons. It is a blast blowing away sports cars, and can be done in a weekend!

So, tell us what you expect from a blower... Highway speed? 1/4 mile blasts? It is easy to put these trucks in the low 14s with no other mods, and the Prochargers are upgradable beyond a stock engine's capability.

And of course you can go turbo now too, from stock to built!

Get any kind of boost, you wont regret it. I haven't had my S/C for a week yet and I love it. I just wish I had done it sooner.

Hell, it is a blast even installing one! The anticipation will kill ya, but it is all worth it in the end! People freak out when they hear them and opening the hood really WOWs the crowd!

Take a look at the dyno thread. You will find Prochargers and Magnachargers there, but we will dyno the turbochargers soon!
