Newbie Question

Hey everyone. I am a new F150 owner here and this is my first post. I did use the search feature first but found nothing.

I have a 2000 F-150 XLT 5.4L and I would like to put a Lightning supercharger on the truck. I found some on eBay and they seem to cheap. Can someone help me out on the price range these run used and new and maybe a website i can buy new ones from. Also, if I was to do this, would I be about the same speed as the lightning? I'm guessing I would be a little slower due to the weight.

Any help would be awesome!

Please do not insult us. Had you searched you would have found plenty of information on this subject. If you had simply looked at the first 10 threads in this forum you would have found the information that you wanted. 6 posts down from yours is a post about installing a Lightning supercharger on a regular 5.4. Besides that thread there have been a dozen others. This question gets asked about once a week and it gets old really fast.

All of these threads will tell you the same thing: Don't bother. Install an ATI procharger or wait for the Whipple.

I can't agree with you more. I've read a million things on here over and over. So what? Some people have nothing better to do but jump all over someone for nothing. If you've read it before, ignore it. Pretty easy to do. Easier than typing a smarta$$ response.

Plus ..The search is not easy to use here when you start..You really need to know what to type in to get what you want..Half the time I can't find what I'm looking for..Give the search a couple more tries..

to answer your question: yes it can be done,
problem is all the hidden cost, with an aftermarket kit, the actual blower is only on peice of the kit. all the ducting, brackets, fuel sytem .....all the parts would add up and probably exceed the cost of just buying an aftermarket add on blower.
Now if you found a totaled lightning and you coud get the engine , trans, wiring harness and computer this might be an attractive swap.
check into and look for a complete kit, look at this site but also look at others and see what people like and dislike about the different kits available. I looked at mustang sites because they seem to be a little less brand loyal, it all about power and downtime and they usually have both 1/4 mile and dyno to back up claims. (every kit availabe can be very powerfull)
Since you dont have a problem with used, while looking at ebay, check for aftermarket kits for sale, i got a used vortech about 60% less than retail. the kit came with the original boxes and an excellent instruction manual which is also available in pdf form on vortech's web site. the reason i was ok with buying the kits is that i thought worse case the blower needs to be rebuilt or parts were missing. i called and got prices on a rebuild and i looked on the web site and downloaded a parts list so i knew i could purchase what i needed, the kit came complete and needed nothing but to be installed.

Roush,

Don't get me wrong... the search engine sucks most of the time. In this case, however, simply searching for "lightning" in this forum returns 5 relevant links in the first page of results. I would not consider that a complicated search string.

First let me apologize for being so rude.

Second, I just did a search for "lightning" in the superchargers forum. There are 5 threads that are specifically about installing the Lightning supercharger in the first page of search result alone.

When I posted, I found it hard to believe that you would fail to do something as simple as search for "lightning" in this forum.

The truth of the matter is that I am probably just more familiar with the search engine than you are and thus can find stuff easier.

I should have simply provided a link to the other threads and left it at that.

DB space and bandwidth costs time and money to maintain!!!
I run my own computer consulting company so believe me I know how expensive things can get.

Most of the work I do is on Unix systems. Just the time and effort spent on ensuring the security of the systems is a huge investment. Add to that the power, bandwidth and hardware costs and it all adds up.

Don't feel bad F150 5.4l, I asked the very same question and got the same reply when I started on the board just a short while ago. As you get more familiar you will find alot of good info about your truck. Just remember alot of the stuff you read here should be verified because not everybody on the board is an expert. Alot of the posts are opinions or experiences that people have encountered and may or may not be applicable to your situation. Everybody's entitled to a bad day, just take it with a grain of salt and keep going. In the end if you learn about how to make your truck BETTER, then the board was worth it. Take Care JR

Contact Madferraristi at www.Madenterprise.com/F150.htm

He is a long time high performance expert. He is no nonsense when it comes to highperformance. He even designed the harmomic balancer used on our F150s. His webpage has a lot of mods for supercharger kits. He just perfected performance mods for the ATI. Now, he has just completed an entire lightning swap......and I am waiting for his mods for that set-up!

Thanks for the plug Iron.

I do have available, a parts list for those die hards who want the OE look under the hood (cool IMO).

Send me an e-mail.

BTW, Madenterprise is singular, not plural.
