Question Looking for a place to buy a supercharger?

I know of several places to buy the supercharger but I do not have 3200 dollars cash. Was wondering if anyone knew of a place where I could open a charge account for one?

I bought my Powerdyne from Summit Racing. You can get their Summit card and save on interest with the more $$ you spend. I have interest free payments for my Powerdyne for 12 months. They have other superchargers, but not the ATI. Good luck and get blown!

Thanx for the post I will check summit out. Do you think you made a wise choice going with the powerdyne? Just trying to get opinions before I spend that kind of cash. Thanx

If I had to do it all over again, I would go with a different brand. First choise would be the ATI Procharger and second would be Vortech. Summit doesn't carry ATI, but it does carry Vortech. You can get more out of those two versus the Powerdyne. Plus, I have had too many problems, already, with the Powerdyne. It had bad bearings right out of the box. I, also, was missing parts, had the wrong ones and had one damaged on top of having the bad bearings. So it was rebuilt with less than 700 miles on it. It has been good so far, but I am waiting for it to happen again. They DO have VERY good customer support, but I shouldn't have had to use it as much as I have. I would get the Vortech from Summit. I think the components are better in quality (as is the ATI). When you apply for the Summit Card, make sure you give yourself enough credit to get the supercharger. It asks you how much will you spend on your first purchase. Put down $4000 so you have enough. I didn't put down as much as needed to buy it with. Good luck.

Crash, You don't recommend Vortech?

What should I purchase then? I do not need to have to buy a whole lot of other stuff, or have alot of problems with it cause' my wife would really have a fit then LOL.

In the classified section of this site, there are a couple of superchargers listed. I think one off a Lightning and one Holley Thunder. I thought about it, but fuel cost being what it is, I think I'll stick with 87 octane for a while.

BTW, does a Lightning blower bolt on to '99 5.4 Expedition motor?

Save the money a little longer and go with the ATI. You'll wish you did.

With the Vortech, the intercooler is extra cost, and you will have to screw with oil supply and return lines. NOT worth it. IMO.

Why are there so many Lightning blowers for sale? Is it worth getting one of them or going with something like ATI? Must be a reason why Lightning owners are switching...... I've got a 2000 5.4 a/t 4x4. Needs more power. Opinions?

Going with a lightning supercharger would require a lot of different modifications.

In the end it would cost just as much as a reliable kit.

Go with the ATI, you'll be happy.

i have the vortech and have zero problems, on paper the ati with the intercooler is a better deal and the only negative thing i have heard is that it is not as quiet as the vortech.

consider who you want to deal with on the phone or net if you have a problem, i dont think i have ever seen anyone slam or complain about crash here, so take that for what it worth.

Vortech potential problems...

NO Intercooler.

Possible oil leaks, and oil breaks down faster. More difficult to return to stock with a hole in the oil pan.

Boost increases (or adding an intercooler later) require replacing the piston type bypass to eliminate flutter

there are potential problems with anything, I have no oil leaks, i have no intention of increasing boost on a stock engine because that a chance i cannot afford to take, i know it can be done and is done, but no thanks. i have seen both negative and postive things about both. if i sold it and removed the s/c i would simply put another drain plug type of bolt in the threaded hole. the truck is paid for and i intend to drive it atleast aothr 3 years.

the oil thing is a give and take, the maintenace is zero for me, when i change the oil the s/c is taken care of. i have no idea how hard or easy it is to change with the ati, but it is something that has to be done. i switched to synthetic just for that added protection it might offer.

if i was bying a s/c new, it would be ati or the magna, i got a deal on the vortech to sweet to pass up and i have not seen the ati, but the quality of the vortech is very good.
not sure but i dont think vortech even offers a intercooler for the 5.4, the v-10 yes, but i have seen nothing on the 5.4
