Driveshaft

I'm looking at purchasing a 2wd 98 reg cab flare side. When you guys are lowering what is all involved, do any shims need to be installed for driveshaft angles? Thanks

It all depends on how low you are going. I had a 01 harley and I used shims.

Do the drop kits generally tell you if it is required like the lift kits do?

Some places will be honest and tell you whether you need them or not, some won't.

The general rule of thumb I learned from Patman03sprcrw was that a 1" drop requires roughly 1* of pinion adjustment. Again, this is a rule of thumb.

I rode with 2" drop shackles and no shims for awhile and never really felt any effects from it.

But it still doesn't hurt to have them.

I have 4" lower hangers. The kit came with axle housing wedges which were not enough. It required .75" of spacer under the trans tail shaft to correct the pinion angle.

It varies on the drop if you will need shims or not. 4/6 is likely. 2" shackles not needed. 2/4 sometimes not needed.
