Help with Subs and Amp Combo Needed

Ok, I finally decided that Im NOT going to get the MTX thunderform, and get a full on pretty nice system. I was looking at lifts, but then once I found out that it wouldnt fit in the garage (which i want it to because my dad was nice enough to park outside so my mom and I could park inside since the 3rd side of the garage hasd the mini gym) that idea left. Now I decided on the HU a Panasonic DF602U with dot matrix display. My question is what is a good sub/amp combo??? I play pretty much all rap, and I want it to hit pretty good but doesnt have to be 3000w. my friend has 2 10's tI eclipses in his truck with a PPI amp that has like 2000w but sounds great but is way to loud and expensive. Im probably looking at 2 10"s and an amp maybe 500-1000w rms is that good??. Im going to get a custom box built and have it installed, so installation isnt a problem. I was looking at 2 comp vr's but im not sure. So could you guys give me a good sub/amp combo for around $1000-$1200 maybe or a little bit under pref around $800. Thanks!!!

You can get the Kicker Comp VR's and a nice amp for less than $400.

I'm going to recommend the Planet Audio P850D. I have this amp pushing my 12's and it is awesome. I just found it for a REALLY low price of $244.99 at:

http://www.carstereoexpo.com/csexpo/p8planaudcla.html

I have never delt with this company, so you are on your own there.

This amp would be perfect for the Comp VR's. You can wire the subs to the amp in a 2 ohm load and the amp will put out 600 watts (300 watts each). You will also have power to work with if you ever upgrade your subs, because the amp will put out 850x1 @ 1 ohm.

You could always get the 10L5's instead of the Comp VR's...

Kicker stuff isn't exactly top notch stuff any more. I suggest something like a Brahma 12" powered by a Ultimate Class T amp. The amp is good for a measured 952ws into a 4-ohm mono which the Brahma dual voice coils wired in series would be, and take that kind of power with ease. And the Brahma works in a rather small enclosure too. Hmm, seems like a perfect combo.

Yes, I really like my amp, I wouldn't recommend it if I didn't! You can wire two subs to a monoblock amp. If you wire it in 2 ohm (with the P850D) you will get 600x1 (300 to each sub) or 1 ohm you will get 850x1 (425 to each sub). If it were me I would go with the 10L5's and wire them to a 1 ohm load.

APT, although the Adire Audio Brahma is a good sub, it is not a good choice for this application. SDf150guy's system is going in an extended cab truck under the back seat. The motor structure & magnet on the Brahma is way too big to fit.

You have to weigh the pro's & con's between the two, and one Brahma is more than twice the cost of two Comp VR's, and two 10L5's will still be cheaper than one Brahma.

Ahh, under the rear supercab seat. How much depth does that allow for mounting? Maybe a Brahma 10 might sqeeze in there? Anyway, he gave a budget and I found IMO a very good combo within it. I just can't see spending $800-1000 and installing Kicker stuff, L5 or L7. I know they are popular, but overpriced IMO. If certain space was not an issue, the single Brahma at a little more than twice the price of the 10L5 is a much superior (if one can provide the power) to two Kicker anythings.

I just looked up the prices of those VR's - $200ish. $300 for the 10" L5. How about a pair of CDT MS-100 for $100ea. The effciency will more than make up the power handling as far as output is concerned. Another option is the Blueprint 1002, but customer service isn't so great and I don't know the mounting depth. Oh, I forgot about the Dayton Titanic MKII also.

I have been looking for a single 10" for also for under a rear supercab seat, and just thedriver's side so I can still fold the larger passenger side down. I'm still waiting for a standout deal on a good driver. The CDT-100 is probably the closest I can find right now and would be good with the amp I plan to use. But not time for instllation means no need to spend the money right now.

the 10 comp vr's are about 110 each at my local audio store where I will be getting it installed, you can get 2 for 135 from some websites, and my friend just come some in his tacoma xtra cab abd they sound great, he catually just has 1 10 comp vr. 12's will not fit, they cant built a box that will still allow usage of the rear seats. All i know is that some of the one that I'm sure will fit are the comp vr's and the ti eclipse 10's. I have heard 2 ti 10's in an extra cab, my friends, but how would one sound?? or would it be better to go with 2 comp vr's??? If i went with 1 ti i could get a 1 channel amp, and the rms of 1 ti would be 750 max at 1500, while the 2 10 kickers would be 600 and 1200. JMT
2trucks1wife-thank you for ALL your help, I really appreciate the time you take to talk to me an unexperienced guy when it comes to this subject

Are you planning on lifting your back seat? Mounting depth is a serious issue when it comes to squeezing a sub under there. What kind of volume (air space) are you going to be able to accomplish with a box built for 2 subs?

These are things you will want to investigate.

I've got 1-10" audiomobile EVO sub under my rear seat.. its a good fit with a sub mounting depth of 5.0".

I have looked into the mounting depths etc.... I talked to the people at al and eds who are going to be building the box and they looked at the truck and said the kickers will fit and I know that the eclipe ti's will fit because my friend has them in his 01 extended cab with his box built from al and eds custom stereo's without a seat lift. I saw your picture and liked them the sub mounting up, but then I saw saying that the sound says best if it is up, so I dont know about that because I drive a lot of my friends around. The box they would build would look like that, but would be downfire and thats what I think Im going to go with. So I'm thinking the panasonic hu, and maybe one ti or two kicker comp vr's but im going to put some more research into it and make sure i get the best for my money.

Its all about what works for you...originally I was hoping to be able to keep the seat down but I didnt realize how bulky the face of the sub is (surround and all). It ended up being too close to the bottom of the seat.. if I turn it up with the seat down.. I can just hear the seat fabric fluttering is all. The only time I have to keep my seat down is when my daughter is riding with me.. and I won't turn it up too loud with her in there anyway.

any particular reason why your set on getting the panasonic head unit?

I just purchased two brand new 10" Kicker L5's and a Hifonics Zeus 1000d Amp for $525.00 shipped online. Pretty damn good deal for 1000 digital watts going to two tens that pound like no other. In a ported box these things are so freakin loud! I heard two 8's in slot ported boxes hot harder than 12's. I can send you to the right guy if you would like?

the panasonic hu i like for a few reasons. This is the same hu that my friend has in his truck and I spent about a half an hour playing with it once durring lunch at school and I really liked the features that it had. i like the sub output feature, it sounded good and he is a senior and has had it for almost 3 years and he hasnt had any problems....... sounds good to me, O yea I also like the display features that it has there pretty cool , do you have any other suggestions?? Is that fabric rattling loud??? The build downfiring boxes there anyways so Ill probably be going with that.

Talked to the stereo guys today, and I think I decided, I think Im going to go with the 10's comp vr's, the kicker 700.5 amp and infinity kappas. The 5 channel amp will be wired to the speakers and the subs so I will only need one amp, and the box will be a custom fiberglass box under the back seat carpeted. The amp is going to go behind the rear seat, cutting out part of the seat in the back which wont even be noticable. And the panasonic HU. Now i just need to save a little more money and Im on my way...
