Help with Subs and Amp Combo Needed
How much are they telling you all of this will cost... exactly?
I would imagine you'll end up spending close to, if not more than, $3000 for all the equipment and installation....?
That fiberglass box alone will probably run you over $300 bucks.
The seat flutter isn't noticeable until I start approaching full volume. I haven't tried any fixes yet.. like adjusting the seat fabric in some way.. I dont plan on rebuilding the box. I wont have my truck long enough to put in the time and materials for it to be worthwhile.
Anybody want a 2001 with 58,000 miles on it?

Well Im still open for any suggestions but they quoted about 2000 installed out the door depending on which HU I pick and on which amp and subs. The most expensive part is yes the fiberglass box, 550 built installed everything, they price match and gave me VERY good prices on the Subs and Amp then the rest is installation. Im not sure if this is what Im going to do yet, it is an option. Might still look into the thunderform, but one of my good friends got his done here in his 2001 extra cab 4x4 lariat, and it sounds GREAT, best system I have herd in a truck. Sooooo thoes are my options.... Not sure where Im going yet, still open for suggestions.

Just got done reading this whole post.
On ebay, and I understand that some of you dont' like to buy OFF of ebay, but I've bought numerous times and IT WAS FINE EACH TIME!!!... bUT ON EBAY... they are selling 2 12" Kicker comp Vr's Bran NEW, for 153 + s/h of 18.00. I believe the same seller has for sale, 2 10" Kicker Comp V4's for 134.00 Plus shipping. That would be 155-160 TOTAL for speakers!!!!!! And, I'm looking into getting a 500S 2 channel Amp from Rockford Fosgate for 230$. That's 250 Watts each and only 160$ for the subs. Grand total being about 390-400. I found an Awsome Panasonic head unit, the one you are looking at.. Df 602U for 212$. If you add it up, that's a hell of alot less than what you are going to pay. Take into account all of these items are BRAN new, NOT refurbished. Anyways, I'm building my own box, and coating with fiberglass Resin, and then spraypainting to give it a nice black, molded look. that will cost me about 50$.
Anyways, I know some of you guys prefer not to buy off of ebay, but the prices are unbeatable, and you can trust buying from certain sellers that have very high feedback ratings.
If it were me, I'd atleast look into some of the things on ebay, because you might only have to pay a fraction of the cost you are going to.
Here are some links if you'd like to give them a quick look:::
Panasonic CQ-DF602U
2 Kicker Comp Vr 10" Subs
Kicker 600.1 Amp
Rockford Fosgate 500S 2ch Amp
Rockford Fosgate 12" HE2 Subs w/ dual voice Coil
Hifonics Z6000 600W 2 ch Amp .. BUT, Uncommon IMO,
Good luck with whatever you decide.
BTW, should I go with 2 Rockford Fosgate HE2's, or 2 Kicker Comp Vr's, and What Amp should I go with??? I only need about 500-600 Watt Amp...
thanks & C ya,
JD

sdf150guy,
Why do you need a fiberglass box...especially since it is going underneath a seat? If you are after the looks you can fiberglass & paint the visible part of the box. Please do not spend $2000 on this setup...

PhatNAV-I have looked at some things on e-bay and yes they are way cheaper, I will probably end up getting all the stuff I can off e-bay to save money, but im making sure its a place i can send it back to if it has any problems
Im going with the fiberglass box because of the sound, at the store they had 2 identical boxes, one wood and one fiberglass with one 10 in each one and the same amp on each one and they were the same dementions, the fiberglass sounded way better in my opnion and its only 100 bux more than a wood box
2trucks1wife-what set up are you recommending???
RTKILLA-thanks for the offer but im going to go brand new on everything

Don't know yet.. I use my truck for work driving.. get paid damn good for it too... 55 cents a mile. That's about $175 I make for every tank of gas I use driving for work. The only drawback is I end up putting A LOT of miles on my truck.. upwards of 2500 a month on busy months. If I sell it right now I'll break even on what I owe to what I can get for it. I'll probably wait and see what the 2004's are like though.
You can still get great prices on all your equipment just by shopping around on the internet.. and not necessarily always on E-Bay. You'll save a few hundred bucks on all of the equipment you're planning on getting. Of Course, then the local shop will be a little bit less friendly to you for not buying everything from them.. but what's more important? Them being your "buddy" (for buying from them) or you saving money.
Was it the same exact sub in both the wood and fiberglass box? 550 for a box for 2 10's wow.

yes same sub in each box, no the Box by itself is 550 :o, the subs are extra, they box is 550 because they custom fit it to your car, they take it for 3-4 days and it takes 2 just to build the box, they build it so it doesnt stick out that much, and so you can still fold up the seats, all the wiring would go under the carpet, and the amp behind the back seat where they would cut out part of the back of the seat, this is what they did to my friends and you cant even tell its there. The price includes all wiring kits and a HU everything installed with their warenty policy. You have 30 days to return anything except labor so I would loose the money for the box, and they will rebuild the box as many times untill you think it sounds right for ever. So if I didnt think it sounded right, drop the truck off and they would re build it. Also 1 year on all the wiring, so if anything doesnt work they replace it. And all the factory warrenties on the products, so its a pretty good guarentee if you ask me. Now my other option is get the thunderform, (he did say they sound good in the f150's) and put a new HU in and some new speakers without an amp unless i get the unamped version of the thunderform and use an amp to wire that and to wire the speakers. I dont know what im going to do yet, LOL but 2trucks1wife, what are your suggestions???
I honestly think the audio shop is trying to tear you a new one! Their number one goal is to make as much money as possible...right?
The demo of the two boxes (wood & fiberglass) with the same dimensions, sub & amp is a sales tactic....of course the wood box didn't sound as good as the fiberglass, it doesn't cost as much. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the wood box was made out of particle board, and was not completely sealed.
For the box, I think you need to go to a different audio shop and get an estimate, but don't mention anything about the audio shop your dealing with now. You can also check out www.subbox.net
For equipment I think you should stick with the Kicker Comp VR's (dual 4 ohm) and the Planet Audio P850D amp.
You should really consider installing everything yourself. If you don't know how to install something all you have to do is ask. It is really easy...

Hey SDF150GUY... let me give you an idea of how much prices for boxes and installation can vary.
I spent a lot of time shopping for my equipment.. and paid someone to build my sub enclosure (I added the amp rack and carpet and all). I went to 4 or 5 different stores to get a price on how much they would charge me to just build me the box. My enclosure is for 1 - 10" sub.
Car Toys... wood box to fit under back seat.. downfire.. $250
Tweeter... FIBERGLASS box.... $250
Moonshadow.... wood box...$120
EarMark... must buy sub from them and have them install box and sub... over $450 (the sub he wanted to sell me is like $225)
I bought the $120 box and it sounds damn good.. just the problem with it to close to seat. But that wasn't his fault..I should have had the sub already before he built the box..my screw up.

Oh yeah..installation.. definitely try to do it yourself.
Its not that hard.. just takes some time and effort and a little knowledge.
How do you think the rest of us learned about car audio? Gotta experiment, read, ask questions, and get in with other people that have some knowledge... like on here
I know I learned by just playing around.. putting in stereo's for my friends.. read a few books to get more in depth knowledge. Then electronics school really enlightened me on the electronics specific stuff.

Yea, if i were you i would look around and see if you can find someone who does private jobs. Most of the time they can get you some exellent prices. And they will custom build your box. I know someone who had a custom box built for 8 10'' subs. It cost him i believe like 1800 for the box, subs, and two amps. I believe the subs were JLs. Oh yea, all of that in a s10( or senoma, whatever the POS was). He was trying to sell the whole deal for $800-1000.
Shop for the best deal and make sure you get someone who knows what they are doing. Word of mouth is usually best (from someone you know - not the salesman)
-Flea markets can be an okay source for equip as well. Just make sure you check the stuff for damage, filed off serial #s etc.

I have a Boston Accoustics C110 sub system with a 10 inch compettion subwoofer and a tuned radiator. It is really awesome and sounds better than most dual 12 inch systems. The best part is that it is small enough to put behing your seat and it looks really good. I have a concept 1000 watt amp that runs it. This system is an awesome system. I am looking to get rid of it, so you could get a top of the line system well under your 1000 dollar mark. I also have competition 4 gauge rockford fosgate wiring. Email me if you are interested....I need to sell ASAP.
