Jacob (Owner of Sundown) has recommended different enclosure sizes for different power levels. It goes something like >500W .5-.6 each, 400W 1 cu ft each (for ported). Here is a link on what he said: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/boa...r-vs-box-size/

It's just that the SA-8 has such a strong motor it will drive the cone past it's mechanical limits in a larger ported enclosure. I have heard 2 in 1.25ft^3 with 500w RMS on them and they banged. They seem to do well in about .6 -.7ft^3 per sub

As Weazel posted, check out the Sound Splinter Orphan 8 - Its based on the venerable TC2 design and specs out better than the SA-8 as well. He runs them and swears by them (as do a lot of people) as among the best 8" subs available.

IMO there are a lot of options that will do anything you want for way less than a JL's Slim Sub - Not worth the $$$ at all - Sundown just released a new sub with a mounting depth of 4.75" for the 10 - Might be something worth looking into, and you could get 2 for the price of 1 JL anything

Don't waste the money on the slim shallow sub from sundown. Its not what you think. Its more of a mid driver.

Well if you're trying to keep up with a "bunch of rich kids who have $$$ to buy JL" then adding another TW5..or 4 won't get you the results you are looking for lol.. And please please please.. Don't buy subs based on you tube videos lol. That's like buying beer based on who has the hottest bikini model in the ad

Weazel has several of the orphans, ask him I'm sure he'd be willing to let a few of them go fairly cheap.

I guess we should narrow this thing down. What enclosure are you going to run? What kind of power do you have? Let's start there
