10" Kicker Comps BLOWN... suggestions?

I don't really keep up with car audio anymore... but I can appreciate a clean system when I hear it. I'm in love with my setup and would recommend the exact same setup to anyone. Only problem is, I blew the crap outta both of my 10" Kicker Comps.

Here's my setup...

Pioneer AVHP4100DVD
Infinity Kappa 6.5" components in the front doors
Infinity Reference in the back doors
Alpine PDX5 5 channel amp powering everything
(2) 10" Kicker Comps under the rear Seat... BLOWN

When the subs were in good shape, the system sounded absolutely incredible. It was tuned to perfection with crystal clear highs, rich mids and tight bass with just enough rumble to make your stomach queasy.

So the question is...

What 10" Subs should I upgrade to? I need them to handle the power going to them from the Alpine. I prefer tight punchy bass for my Sevendust and Breaking Benjamin... my son likes the low end for his hip hop crap. I just need some good bang for the buck subs. I'm willing to spend a little money though. I don't want garbage. Whatever you guys suggest, they need to fit in the box under my rear seat. Any suggestions????

Thanks!!

That Alpine is only rated 300w on the sub channel. How you smoked 2 10s with that little amount of power, I don't know. Something else must be wrong. I would say with that much power, do a single 10 ported with proper amplifier gain settings and you'd be happy.

^What he said. You blew multiple subs with 300Ws? I find that hard to believe, not saying you didn't do it, but something is probably wrong. As far as subs go, I have always liked Fi Subwoofers. you can get SQ or SPL subs from them, or a mixture of both!

Those comps aren't exactly beasts when it comes to power handling. Depending on the box, chances are good that they can't handle the rated 250W from a mechanical standpoint.

What box do you have?

The box is Atrend. Here's some pics of the setup and what my subs look like now.

Just looks to me like the foam surround wore out/tore. As soon as that happened you were effectively running the subs without a box and chances are they can only handle 50 watts or so (maybe) free-air. Any more than that and they'll just beat themselves to death.

The problem that you're going to have in replacing them is finding subs other than Kicker Comps that are shallow enough. You're probably going to have to go with thin mounts.

but what thin mount speaker is the best? I have the same box except 01-03 f150 version and i am cruising this forum for the best sub set up for my small allowance. I have a 600 watt amp but am willing to get a bigger one. I listen to a lot of metal (slayer megadeth etc)and my old lady listens to alot of newer rock like breaking benjamin and avenged sevenfold

ps i have 1 cubic foot of space per side with a 5 inch mount depth

looks like your box may be at fault. This is just a thought..

The foam is tore on the same side as the shallowest clearance between the driver and the floor of truck. If you are driving the speakers hard with low frequencies, the excursion will be greater. I think the cone was making contact with the floor thus damaging the surround.

Is the other speaker in the same condition in the same location?

Image Dynamics ID10. More excursion than the Kickers and they will fit in the atrend box.

put you a nice 2000watt amp on them and you should pound as hard as it gets under the seat when i ran them i used the 500rms 12in 2 of them on a audiobahn 1800dt witch i was pushing around 1400rms to them with the amp down on the meter and i got pretty good deeper bass

You will not get ideal airspace for 2 of those under the seat without a seat lift. They are OK shallow mounts and surely better than the basic Kicker comps, but still far from the "best" for under the seat of the F150.

Ideal airspace for 2 under the seat, no seat lift.
