Yet another newbie sub question
I need help choosing a sub. I was going for this JL
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_13610W0...111&tab=review
I'd only run one, I listen to mostly rock, metal and little else. I think a 12" would be excessive, and I want to keep my floor jack where it is. (This is all going into a 07 F-150 Screw btw)
So far the rest of the list goes
Infinity Reference 6830cs (just for the front)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Pioneer GM-D9500F (power front, bridge for the sub)
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...GM-D9500F.html
I was thinking about getting some cheaper speakers for the rear, and running a mono amp for just the sub.

I have an '07 Supercab and as you can see, there is room for your jack with a single 10" sub in a custom box. I have mine in my tool box to make room for my two amps. The one you selected may be to tall at almost 5". I chose an Alpine SWS-1043D 10" Subwoofer (4Ω+4Ω) because it was only 4.3" tall. Just a suggestion...

I think I'll just go with mounting the amp on the back wall. You sure I can't fit 5" under there? I want to go ahead and order this week if I get everything figured out in time. '
Is everything else fine?

My qlogic single 10 box can take up to 5.8" deep.
I'm not saying you can't but it will be tight. You wouldn't want to have a heavy person sit on it plus remember subs generate heat and you do need air flow. For down firing amps I would think one inch would be correct, with a 4 15/16 sub, one inch clearance, and 1/4 to 1/2 inch of MDF on top that's about 6 1/2 inches. Best of luck...

jdruzik, how do you like that alpine sub? I'd rather have it be a tad cleaner than just loud bass.
Anyone wanna recommend a good amp, or any advice on buying one? A company to avoid, etc.

The Alpine SWS-1043D sub is to my ears outstanding. It along with the four SPX-17REF
6-1/2" Component 2-Way speakers create a total environment with true sound. I didn't want a sub that will shake my mirrors off but it will vibrate my seat. My sound system is clear and bright even with the volume turned up. I have a dedicated amp, MRP-M500 for the sub, and I have the MRA-F350 5-Channel Digital Amp for total surround sound for my components and center channel speakers. I wouldn't change a thing...

Alright, local shop is having a buy 1, get one free sub sale. So i'm going to check out that alpine and the JL w0v2, and I'll have one extra to install to a second car, sell, etc. So that works out awesome.
Anyways I think I'll go with that pioneer amp, and a 1 channel (prob the Alpine MRP-M500) to drive the sub. Tomorrow can't come soon enough!
I think I'll go with the fox box for the sub enclosure, since its bigger then the super crew sound one, or is .2 of a sqft really worth $20 more?

I'm not sure of the size of the Fox Box... Alpine recommends 0.65 cubic feet enclosure for a sealed box and 1.2 cubic feet enclosure for a ported box. Both of these numbers are for the Alpine 10" SWS-1043D sub. My box was custom made and not a commercial one. It was more expensive but it was worth the money... The ported box is louder but the sealed box is clearer. I chose the sealed unit... The choice is yours...
I think I'd want sealed, I have a couple friends with ported boxes, mind you there running one or two 12"s but I think I'd prefer the cleaner bass of a sealed for rock music, right?
Just double checked, the fox is .8 and the super crew sound is .6 (with an option to add some depth to the box, which would add some air space I'm sure)
So, should I just settle for the smaller (cheaper) super crew sound box, or pay the extra for the Fox?

I listen to about the same as you do, I have close to 6K songs om my ipod ranging from rolling stones and zeppelin to tool, metallica and slayer. Anyway I have a 4 channel kenwood amp (8404 50Wx4) driving some kicker components in the front and some cheap kicker coax in the rear for fill and a mono kenwood amp (8104D 500Wx1) driving a single kicker CVR 10 in a sealed musicmoose box. 07 supercrew and the same listening style as you. See my sig for my setup. For me the combo is great. Took me a bit to get it all tuned in, but once I had the tune nailed the sound is beautifully balanced, full, and has a nice overall presence. For my everyday listening I keep the SW channel turned down for a clean, tight, bass line. If I really crank on the SW channel it's enough to run you out of the cab. Definitely way more than I had anticipated running a single 10!
It may not be the highest-dollar setup ever but the overall quality and quantity of sound is spot-on for me.
