No Idea

Ok I have never worked with audio before. I have been looking to get better sound in my 05 truck for a while but I don't know where to start. I've been reading a lot on these forums but I just keep getting lost. I want to make my music louder and have way better sound quality with some more bass. Where should I start? New door speakers?

P.S. I'm 17, so I'm on a pretty tight budget.

Are you running the stock head unit or aftermarket?

Biggest improvement will come by first off adding a sub and a solid amp. Look at many of the sub box threads on here. Supercrewsound was one of the better known box makers but there are many other companies out there now.

If you get a amp with line level inputs you can use the existing factory head unit. For subs on a budget I'd probably look at ID or MTX. Course you could always score some nice subs on craigslist.org.

Then add door speakers and a 4 channel amp for them.

don't pay other people to do easy work!

if you listen to alot of rap, you probably want to start off with a sub setup, there are a ton of options out there. generally, alot of people go with single or dual 10's or 12's under the seat with anywhere from 200 to 800 watts

if that's not what you are looking for, a new HU will provide the largest change in sound quality, followed by some amped up door speakers and sound deadening

so i would decide which route you want to go then come back and ask for suggestions on brands, etc.

you should pay them if you dont have the ability to do it yourself
its not that easy for everyone

Why would he ask for suggestions on brands? What you think sounds good , might not sound good to him . Plus , your going to get 15 different answers . Do it like the OLD DAYS before Internet , go to an audio store and listen to different Speakers and Amplifiers , and chose equipment that sounds and looks good TO YOU . Why would I want to buy speakers or Amplifiers that I've never heard ?

I wouldn't pay anyone to do work on my truck except maybe aligning it and stuff.
I like learning and plus i make sure it's done right.
Does a sub just add bass?
Cause i'd rather have nice, crisp, clean, louder sound, then just more bass.
Will a new head unit give me better sound quality?

How would you know your doing it right if you don't know what your doing?

Again you'll benefit most by adding the sub first.

Even though it's a bit psychological, you'll hear your door speakers perform somewhat better since you can turn down the bass at the head unit then boost it up at the amp for the sub.
