Will this work?

Ok guys, I need some input from folks who know more about this stuff than me. My box has a depth of 5 7/8's. I am looking at JL Audio 10W3v3-4 which has a top mount depth of 5 7/8's. Will this sub fit in my box?

It is better to have a little space behind the sub, depending on your set up you might could try using a rubber spacer of some sort to get a good seal and get the magnet away from the wood a little.

what box? where is it going. get mdf spacer rings. u only need the magnets off the bottom of box so they dont buzz. 1/8 to 1/4in is enough. there are no pole vents on those

I just bought the same speaker, and after looking around and doing some reading. The
W3 actually has a mounting depth of 5.93 (per JL audio website) which is just a hair more than 5 7/8 (5.8something when converted) So I'm going to have to go with a center console style box. The one from Soundoffaudio.com looks promising, and they have great customer service. I've already talked to the owner about customizing one for me, since they come with 1.1 cu. ft. of air space, and the W3 only needs .625 sealed.

I think you should really consider going with the foxacoustics box. I just installed a single JL 10W3 in the foxbox recently, and it fit perfectly. The sound quality is really great too.

How did you install a single W3 in a dual speaker box and it still sound good? Did you plug the other speaker hole somehow?

Foxacoustics makes a box for a single sub too.

Oh my bad. I must have missed that, sorry. How's the construction of it? Does it seem well built? And I heard something about it not having enough space for the excursion of the w3. Which would burn out your voice coil.

The construction of the box seems like its very high quality. It's all 3/4 mdf construction. I can't see a problem with excursion. The spec sheet for the 10W3 lists the Xmax at .550 inches. With the sub installed in the box, there is over an inch of clearance from the face of the sub to the floor. I really don't think that is an issue. Adding that sub and box to my system has really enhanced the sound quality tremendously. Actually I'm underpowering the sub a little with a 340 watt rms amp. It would probably sound even better pushing it with a 500 watt rms amp, but the sound quality is still very good. A friend of mine has 2 shallow mount twelves in his truck (don't know the brand), and he's amazed at how my system outperforms his with just a single ten.

Well, I think you just sold me. I already bought my W3, and the 500/1v2, but I wont be home from Iraq for about 3 weeks or so. So I'm probably gonna go ahead and order the foxbox. Now I just gotta decide if I want the 2/10 box and order another W3, or if I should just go with what I got.
