speaker recommendation
LuvTheC, I checked out your truck. Very nice!! I have a 99 same color, topper etc. but would like the lift. Soon I'm sure! I take it you were not happy with the kappa's up front? Just need more punch that you can't get from a 5x7? Where should I put my crossovers? Under the seat or by the amps. (under back seat). I have 5x7 2-way kappa's up front now and some Pioneer's in back. I ordered the component kappa's tonight when I saw the price because I had been dreaming of them for a while. The Pioneers are out of there however you make me wonder whats wrong with the kappa component spkr? What would they not do? Please don't slap me in the face, they will be here friday! Just want to know.

Big Easy, I don't know about that discount because it's a yellow sticker on the front of the cat. However even $179.00 is a good price for a speaker in that class. I have the two-ways and they rock under good clean power! Just tell them you want the discount. They want to sell them so tell them to send you the catolog with your purchase.

That discount must be regional because my catalog doesn't have the yellow sticker. Just got it today. Ya'll don't go off and buy all of those Kappa's before I can get a pair! I'm still paying off Christmas gifts!

Robert,
You will be pleased with your purchase! Like I said they are a quality speaker. A little "Bright" at times. But overall a VERY good sounding speaker. I just like the Boston Acoustics better!? The SQ (sound quality) is very tight, a little more punch and they have four setups for the tweeters. Allows for better imaging. I'm also a sucker for a deal.
I intend to mount the crossovers, which are quite large, between the vapor barrier and the door panel. Not inside the door!! This will give me easy access and keep them dry. Also, limited wiring.
I hope this helps.
Oh!! Thanks.... I LOVE my truck.
Be well,
Todd

J.J,
That seems odd my cat. has the sticker, "turn the page for details", then a card inside that says 15% off most items. It say's except sale or specials. But I didn't even see the card and the sales person pointed out the extra discount and told me they would be $152.96 Not bad for a speaker they claim has a list price of $430.00, and have been selling for $299.95 for ever! I almost bought them a month ago. Boy I would have been chapped! Tell him your cousin Robert in Colorado told you about the deal. They are about as helpfull a crew as there is. B-4 I forget my cat. say's winter/spring 2000, has a blue cover w/your choice in the middle!? What a motor mouth huh!! Or is that 5.4 motor fingers?

Robert,
Your right about Crutchfield, I've had great service from them in the past and you get the merchandise in just a few days. They must have a couple different winter/spring 2000 catalogs. Mine has a picture of two Panasonic faceplates and a Rockford Fosgate amp and says "It's all about great sound" in the middle. O well, I'm going to try to get me a pair of those Kappa's before they sell out!

To mod or not to mod....that is the question!

I know it's all subjective, but for under $200, I can't believe that the Memphis components can hold a candle to the Infinity Kappa components that are currently on sale in Crutchfield for $179. They list for $430, and have a definite reputation for being top notch. to each his own.......

Well guys, I went with Memphis
It actually came down to: the memphis is here and ready to be put into my truck or order the speakers from Crunchfield and wait another week for the stereo place to scheldule me in for the install. As it was, it took all day!! I had all the ford speakers pulled out, I wonder if they are any good as paperweights because they are really crappy as speakers! Had 6 1/2" Memphis components w/tweeters installed near-by. In the rear, I had Memphis 5x7's put in and a 10" memphis sub put in a box under the rear seat. The amp was put next to it, also under the seat. I'm using the 5 channel wiring configuation to run the 4 speakers and the sub, it's a great amp. Good highs and fantastic thumping!! I did have to have preouts added to the Ford CD/Cassette/radio in order not to lose fader ability. It all worked out very well and anyone looking inside my truck would think that I only have the stock ford stuff. That is until I turn it on

OK, I've searched through many threads this evening, and I just want to make sure I am thinking clearly now. Luv the C, you mounted the tweeters behind the door panel, with the midrange drivers angled toward the dome light. Your tweeters also angle that way, correct? I haven't removed my door panels to see the specifics of the landmarks you are using. Basically, I don't want to drill into the panels of my truck, but you are able to mount the tweeters inside these panels on the metal frame of the door? I have been wavering back and forth between components and a set of MB Quart 6.5 with the tweeters mounted on the frame of the woofer. I can't recall their model number, but seem to run about $200. The advantage is no crossover to mount, but the disadvantage is their are components which cost less (the infinity's everyone seems to be buying), but seems to me to be a bit more difficult to install. I've never installed components before, but I understand how their imaging is superior. I guess I'm just looking for the pros and cons of each, and for some advice. I read that with an adapter plate, the 6.5 MB's will fit, but need some cutting. That kind of bothers me too. Sorry for rambling, thanks for listening.

Hey guys,
I already had a Rockford Fosgate pucnch45i, an alpine, 18w/channel amp, and a pair of keenwood truck boxes with woofer, midrange and tweeter when I bought my truck. I bought a good preamp converter to pull my stock head unit to preamp levels and ran the 4 factory speakers on the front channel with the alpine amp and the kenwoods behind the seat with the fosgate amp.
I would eventually like to replace the head unit and the factory speakers, but would I benefit from adding a pair of tweeter components to the front channel first?
Just looking for some opinions?
