2003 Super Cab Setup

So with summer semi-approaching, I have been thinking about putting some subs in my truck and potentially new door speakers.

I would like to keep my stock head unit for now. I was thinking about getting a premade box from supercrewsound or musicmooseaudio ? Any other suggestions on a box.

As for the sub and amp and hookup stuff for the headunit, I have no clue. I really do not know tons about car audio. As for what I primarily listen to is mostly hip hop and rap, as well as some rock/alternative. I don't need anything crazy, but just something that can really enhance the overall listening experience.

Is it vital to replace door speakers? How much would that run me assuming I have to get an amp for those too?

I would like to keep the sub setup under $700, but I don't have any clue on how much speakers would add to that price, so if you could give me a rough figure that would be nice.

Thanks, Andrew

I've got a supercrewsound dual 12" down firing box for sale for your truck if you're interested. I had two Pioneer slim mount 12" subs in it when I had my 2000 extended cab and it sounded pretty good.

Well you can get the components cheap. I'm a big supercrewsound fan and have had a few different boxes from them, my new 08 is getting a JL stealthbox which are supposed to be awesome but above your overall budget but it does come with a nice sub. Yes it's vital to replace the door speakers! It would take some customization but a nice Polk Audio component set up front and some decent rear speakers would be a great start. You would need a small amp to run the door speakers as well. Unless you're installing this stuff yourself, $700 might be a stretch after you get two amps, front and rear speakers and sub/box. If you are doing it yourself then you could probably get away with $700. Speakers are really important in a setup since it's your primary soundstage, your fronts should be the nicest since you will fade most of the sound towards the front. I recommend holding off until you're ready for a nice head unit also. Save the money and do it right when you can.

If your looking to keep your stock head unit I would look into a JL Audio Cleansweep CL-SSI.

I kinda don't want to change out my headunit, but rather just keep the stock look. How hard would it be to install all of this if I bought all the hardware myself? What specific speakers and subs would you suggest?

Its not hard. The cheap way is with a line out converter. You splice in to speaker wire and it gives you RCA outputs to get the signal to your amp. Then you just have to find a switched power source for the amp remote wire (deck harness is easiest IMO), mount your amp, run your power wire, and find a ground. Pretty easy.

So I found a cheap head unit I am going to replace mine with, I know all of you will probably scowl at me but its an xovision ddin 7 inch touchscreen. I just don't like the look of most aftermarket headunits, but I like the look of a touchscreen, but I don't have the money for an expensive one. Plus I'm not going to be watching tons of movies on it.

I think I am going to get a music moose audio box to fit under my rear seat to hold 2 subs. Should I go for 2 12's or 2 10's, I was leaning towards 10's.

What shallow mount subs sound good that would fit in there?

I'm thinking about getting the Alpine Type S speakers for the front doors and then maybe a speaker that can carry the mid-bass/ middle tones for the rear. Are there any good speakers for that.

Lastly, what type of amps would I need and what specifications? How much wiring? and where do I get the ddin adapter kit for my car?

Thanks, Andrew
