The 3 car shops that have seen my truck for tint and other stuff have all been impressed with what i did and how it sounds.
Im not tearing into you, it sounds like you did a good job for 17 years old. I'm just saying dont go saying the Pioneer Shallows are awesome until you've compared them to some quality drivers first hand...

But hey as long as your happy, then whatever.

1bad86vmax - Thats a nice install your friend had in his Grand Am. Those Pioneer Premier TS-W12PRS subs actually get great reviews for their sound quality, power, and air space requirements. I've read several reviews of them over at diyma. I believe npdang actually tested one and gave it a positive review.

I considered using them in my truck, but since they are out of production, they're hard to find in mint condition, all the ones I've seen are pretty banged up. They have a 5.25" mount depth and recommended airspace is 1.0cuft. With a little effort, I figured I could mount one under my rear seat without having to use a lift.

His system is (Totally) Pioneer Premier . He has won numerous national SQ events as well as competed in a few finals . His vehicle is hands down one of the finest sounding vehicles you will hear ,period . I have included a couple pics of his old Grand Am . His new install in his Grand Prix is much nicer .
Those arent the standard Pioneer Subs.... Those are the exception to the rule and have definately been out of production for a while...

So after reading this thread again I decided to bring it back up. What are the audio gods' consideration of decent subs for mortals not willing to dump boat loads of cash in their ride to just get a little bump. I have used MA Audio in the past and been very pleased. I was given a box to hold 2-10s. From what I have been reading the box given may just be a bit too shallow for normal sized subs. It seems silly to have to run slim subs, but if I must I want to find average range DVC 4ohm models to wire down to 1ohm.

This didn't seem worthy of another thread but rather a continuation. Thanks guys.

How deep is the box? (mounting depth). and how much airspace does it have?

It looks like a suppercrew sound box, but I will get measurement after class today.

He had JL V3 D4s in there I think is what I was told and it was snug. He had like 3 layers of the foam tape you put under toppers to bump the speaker out a hair (not what I would have done, lol. They have some sort of recessed top too so I imagine it is the most depth yo can get for under a stock seat. Very tight fit.

EDIT: It appears as if my shortest distance is 5" of mounting depth. And without measuring all of the inside diameters, my rough guess is .6 cf per side. I will eventually calc the interior size but not tonight, too much homework. Thanks for any help guys.

I'd look at Elemental Designs 11kv.2 subwoofers. They will fit in that box and sound quite nice. I put one in a friend's car and it is a very nice sounding driver for 90 bucks.

Thanks. I am always weary of those brands audio guys run but I have never really heard of. Not the huge brand names, but seemingly reputable stuff.

So are the JL 13TW5-3's not worth getting? Id love to run these but i want to remain under my seat and i dont want to have to raise it.

If these arent going to be possible needing .8cuFT of space what subs are going to give me the most bass staying under the seat without raising the seat?
