Polk MM6501 Components

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to post a review on here about my new speakers I just installed in my supercrew. I've been a Polk fan for a while and had the original set of MOMO components that came out some time ago. I have these components powered by a Polk Audio C300.2 Amp (150Wrmsx2). I've only had them installed for 4 days now and they're incredible. I did a bit of a custom flush mount of the tweeters right in front of the door handle. I liked my old MOMO's but these are fantastic. Even using my ipod as main source of audio, the sound detail I can't get enough of. I'm even more of a fan of music with intricate instrumentation than I used to be. Clarity at high volumes is also very impressive. When I purchased these, there wasn't much feedback on here, so I figured I'd post my experience. If these things still have room to improve through break-in, I can't wait!

Yessir, I'll take some pics later and post them. I kept the door panels stock except for the tweeters so you won't be able to see much of the woofer. If I was a bit more ambitious I guess I could have cut more of the door metal out to allow the woofer to be completely centered in the panel grill. Didn't trust myself to do that. But most of it is visible and the sound is still excellent. I'll get some pics soon.

Ipod uses compressed music files. Try a well recorded cd. It will sound 10x better.

Yeah and thats my point. I know the quality of a compressed file is nowhere near that of a CD and the sound quality coming from these speakers is still blowing me away. I use the Ipod for convenience of not lugging around discs, but now I just might have to go back old school!

Here are the pictures of the speakers installed.

This is the front driver door:

This is a close-up of the driver door woofer. Notice how it has some slight obstruction. Like I said before, didn't trust myself to cut up my door to bring that location down.

Here's the passenger door:

Here's a close-up of the woofer: (no obstruction)

Here's a close-up of the tweeter:

Is that Polk speaker grille removable? Looks like you have a grille covering a grille. If it is, I would remove the Polk grille.

Otherwise, good.

Yeah, I was thinking about that. The grille is removable. The only reason I kept it, was I didn't like the look of the woofer by itself. My old MOMO's had badging on the center cone, this one is just all black and carbon. I guess I could take it off though. Haven't decided. At this point, I may just leave it because its such a pain in the *** to get those door panels back on.

Russ, good job. Glad to see you got it done and working. Nice job with the tweets. Did you dremel it or hole saw the opening?

But please dont say those are a pain in the ***.... I pray to see those trucks at work...

Thanks, I did a bit of a combo on the tweeters. I used a hole saw drill bit that cut a 1 3/4" hole, then used the dremel to make the hole a little bigger a little at a time until the flush mount popped in.

For some reason, I have the hardest time getting my door panels to pop back on. They all seem to line up but then there's always something that keeps me from popping them all the way down. Might be operator malfunction.

Question about the install, I've been playing with it a little but would you set a HP filter for my components? They are the only thing being powered by that amp. The sub is powered by the other amp. So should I leave the full range going to the components from that amp or set a HP filter?

Oh and one more thing (going off topic of this thread here), my sub is being powered in exactly the same way it was prior to my install but I seem to not have the same bass response I did before. What could cause this and where would you start diagnosing? Thanks.

This is in a 2010 Screw? Pics don't look like it. I'm only asking because I have my sights set on these, and I have a 2010 Screw. Want to know if they'll fit.

Sorry this slipped by me. Not sure if you're still looking at these. That install was in my old 2002. I'm still all stock on my 2010, so not sure if they'll fit but they were awesome. Sorry I can't be more help!
