Of course that price range can differ greatly with the choice of an amp. One thing that I learned very early was to never go cheap when it comes to an amp. An amp will make or break a system. To get a good one that will nicely power two subs may be a decent chunk of change.

Well, I went to supercrew sound, had the box+tan+30 BUCKS of shipping+2 10" ID subs was 507, without amp! I've heard good things about Orion, Alpine, Memphis, ED, ID. Or were the ID 10s there, overpriced?
Supercrewsound has more airspace than the majority of premade online boxes..
ED offers their subs on their site at a discount with a code.. In 2005 I paid $120 shipped for two 10" ordering from their site. My first sub set up in my truck and I was happy with it..... then
You need to shop around, take notes, learn and then buy..

I was happy with my first set up because I was anti-seat lift (just like you) which made 10's my only under the seat downfiring option.
You can get a decent sub setup with $500 if you shop around and do your homework. If you're interested I've got a set of Eclipse 10's that I would like to get rid of. I used them in my last truck and they were great. Decent amount of boom and the sound quality isn't bad either. I talked with Mark (Supercrew Sound) about fitting these in his box and he said according to the dimensions they would fit just fine with the extra depth option on his box. The actual model number of the sub is SW7104DVC-T2 and I've got two of them in great shape.
