Tweeter location

In an '08 F150, do you use the top door location to mount your tweeters, the upper defrost portion of door, windshield, kickpanel?

I plan on using the top door mount my aftermarket tweeters when I redo the components. Right now that is where my audiophile package has them placed, so I figured that would be a good spot to place them.

I normally mount them in the factory spot... If it isnt there, Ive drilled out the holes to fit tweets up there.

Was curious of other locations might help or hurt imaging.

Mine are in the stock spot right now.

Other options are the a-pillars, the upper doors (by rear views) or kick panels. Its best to keep it as close to the mid woofer as possible for imaging purposes. But you can get great sound elsewhere too, its dependent on many factors.

The stock location is (stressed) "ok" in my opinion. I still have yet to F around and find a good spot though, so for now, thats where mine are. That is one of the top things on my 'list' that bother me about my setup right now though...

I've got my aftermarket tweeters on the...is it the a-pillar?...right at the top facing the windshield. It makes it sound like I have music coming from every location in my car! And it's not directly next to anyone's ear like it would be on any of the other pillars so it won;t make anyone completely deaf

I did have pioneers (since smoked them ) suffice mounted in the sails on the side with the cups that came with them so I didn't need to drill out the panel but they just screamed at you and never could hear the left side or the mids thats changed with the Type r's that swivel they flow I'm feeding them 150 watts each side as you can see they are parked right next to the mids witch is a good thing and the panels can be replaced for about 25.00 dollars if you need to delete the tweets

How do those sound located in kickpanel instead of top of the door?

yeah they sound great I was use to a all highs screaming sound stage in my right ear now its mixed and comes in at all sides with a small tweak of the balance the cross overs are back their as well witch make for a easy run I'm going to order black kick panels soon so that they stay stealthy looking 2 oh and they stay dry when its raining when you open the door cant do that in the sails

Seems like you would miss a little of the opposite side sound but for that direct person in front of those would sound great. I like that location and look.
Shane - what component set did you go with?

I was thinking the same thing. What about placing them facing inward on the kick panels? Possibly building an angled mount ring for them so that you can direct the sound towards the center of the truck? Just throwing out some ideas.

I can hear both sides the are Alpine SPR-17S type R the tweets swivel any way you want with just a push of a finger and just adjust the balance level if needed for the front side mounting them would lead to getting banged up by feet I would think plus you have the e brake and fuse box to deal with
