Hunting for a Stock Explorer Speaker

This isn't a WTB thread...

My wife's explorer has suffered a speaker failure. Being that it's the wifey's vehicle, I'm not looking to upgrade but, I would like to get that stereo feeling back in the vehicle...

Here's my problem... I don't want to buy a new one and none of the local junkyards seem to want to bother with me wanting one speaker. Ebay is nil right now on this item.

What size speaker is in there? Anyone know? Any thoughts on finding one? I'm already fishing over on explorerforums.com.

Thanks, fellas!

Yeah, what year Explorer? My kids have a 2003 Explorer with the full audio and DVD system with subwoofer in the back. If you want to know what speaker is in there, why don't you pull it out and see what it looks like.

RP, you should just have same old 5X7/6X8 just like in your truck...

I would just order a pair of this from parts express, they are ford OEM 2way and would be a cheap upgrade to boot.....

I agree get a set of the Styxaudio spks. 4-5$ a set.

P.S. We need a mod for in the audio forums... Sometimes things can get a little out of hand. My vote is Bartak, Styx, F150 Truckin or someone else that knows the stuff inside and out.
Its whatever.

Hey Rockpick, I have 4 oem speakers from my 2007 screw (3 months old) that you can have. They are not audiophile but they are free. They should be plug and play.

Sorry about that guys! I really appreciate your help!

It's a 2004 Eddie Bauer. It has the audiophile - or at least I'm nearly certain that it does. The presence of the subwoofer means that it has the audiophile option, right?

Ya, it does have it then. Dont mind to help you out.

Try the Styxaudio speakers. Those will work perfectly.

that would be correct RP, if you have a Factory Sub, its a audiophile optioned truck.... but, at this point you need to see the blown speaker to see if its a standard ford 5X7 (1 way) or a audiophile 2 way..... if you still are looking to replace just that speaker...

now if you order a pair of those from Parts Express it would make no differance, if you have 2 way, you would just be placing them, if you have standard (1 way) you would still be replacing them with a upgraded speaker..

The dang thing started working again tonight... I'm nearly certain I've got a loose connection or something.

I'm going to try to yank the panel off tomorrow or sometime this week to see what I can jiggle to make it work.

Thanks again for all of the help -- If I don't have to buy one, I'm going to try to dodge it. My wife is far from an audiophile - heck, she hadn't noticed that the speaker wasn't working.

She hadn't noticed that but there's this TINY little rattle coming from the rear gate and she's been ALL OVER ME about getting back there to give it a look. LOL!

Thanks again... I'll keep you guys posted. Again, I appreciate the help!

Amen.

I didn't get to taking the door panel off of her ride today but will likely get to it this coming weekend. The lack of a speaker (oh yeah, it didn't work today when I took her Explorer to Costco) doesn't seem to bother her in the least...

Really seems like a short somewhere... hopefully, it's an easy fix. We'll see.

If not, the $5 speaker seems like a fair deal.

Go for the Partsexpress speakers. They're $4.88 or $4.25 if you buy 4 or more...IIRC

I ordered a set of 4 and put them in my '05 Supercab. Did the front first and compared them to the stock rears. There was a world of difference.

They sounded so good a buddy of mine ordered a set that same day.

So which one of you bought a bunch and put them on ebay?
