Installed Alpine Type R's

Well i installed my new 6.5" Type R speakers in my screw.
THEY DON'T SOUND ANY BETTER THAN THE STOCK 5X7

They are currently being ran off of my stock HU.
My question is, will they sound really good once i hook up my amp??? If not they are going back to crutchfield cause if they arn't any better than stock their a waste of my money.

Thanks,

The stock head unit is very low power was made to sound good with the cheap high efficiency speakers that came in the truck. The new speakers need much more power than your stock head unit can put out.

^Yup, I have type "s" in the rear, I have a reg cab, and type "r" in the front door spots. Amazing sound, but I have a Pioneer HU too. The type "r" will be better with an amp as I plan to do when I add subs, it's recommended with the "r" speakers. Have some faith but it's a good start you have, now continue upgrading.

I think I looked up your speakers, they say 100w RMS? If you're running that off your deck you could damage your speakers. Good speakers want clean power, and if you crank your deck up, that little amp inside will only give maybe 20% of whats required for those speakers. Don't crank up your deck and create "clipping" in those, that's what causes the damage.

Many people say you can't underpower, but you have to figure out where that clipping point is and stay away from it. Get an amp with about the same RMS as those speakers and those babies will sing.

Thanks for the input, they are the 6.5" coaxial speakers. I just hope that they sound great after i hook up my amp. im also not real impressed with the bass, but maybe once i amp them it will be a different story.
thanks again,

AMP THEM. Then make sure you dont want to take back any negative things.

ill add my 2 cents here

amp them other wise they are a waste of money

dont expect bass from speakers that is what subs are for, in fact speakers really shouldnt be playing any bass unless they are made for it (midbass)

underpowering is worse then over powering for reasons given above

and when you get really into your system put these type r's in the back and get some type r mponents in the front, i have 5.5 comps in the front and 5x7 coaxil's in the back ***** type r and the fronts are amped and the rears run off the hu just for a little rear fill, and trust me they will hurt your ears before they reach their max

Yeah, you are taking a 100w rms speaker and giving it about 5 watts rms. You cant ask for much out of that. I still bet they sound better than your stockers. Those speakers have a low sensitivity rating, so they would actually like the amount of power they are rated at (not very efficient). Do as az said, and amp them, and then maybe even move them to the rear and upgrade your front stage to comps.

Hope this helped some,

Thanks for the help. I've heard 6x9's amped and the bass sounded good so i figured i could get the same out of 6.5 inch. Maybe im wrong. as soon as i get the amp hooked up i will give some feedback.

Thanks again.
