hey guys..

I'm thinking of adding a subwoofer to my Reg cab F-150, because the stock speakers just don't supply the bass knock I'm looking for.

Without destroying my wallet or my ears, what do you guys suggest as a good balance of quality sound/easy on the budget?

My brother is a stereo nut and he suggests a ten inch JL w6 in a ported box running about 300-350W RMS . I've no experience with this kind of thing so I'm not sure what kind of amplifier I'm going to need, but I do know I don't plan on replacing door/dash speakers, I simply would like a nice sub in a nice looking box so you can hear me before you see me

any help, suggestions etc is greatly appreciated.

well, it won't be easy on your wallet but yea, that'll give you some knock. especially if the box is built well
and i think the W6 takes 600 rms. but i may be wrong

This is the question...

I want to, but it needs between .6 and 1.2, with 1.0 recommended- the best I can do is about .78 using 3/4 MDF, not too bad I guess if I do some polyfill.

Haha, I'm going to build my own box, I'm not gonna get into ported, too complicated for me. It would prob end up sounding horrible.

Straight from RF website-

Rec. Vented Enclosure 0.75 cu. ft. (21.24 liters)

Vented Tuning Frequency 46 Hz
Port: (1) 3" diam. x 12" long
Port: (1) 7.62 cm x 30.48 cm

So I'm guessing I'd just cut a vent 3"x12".. I've seen where some people use PVC coming from the inside of the box, any difference between the types of port?

Nooooo! It would be a 3 inch circle with a 12 inch piece of PVC going into the box. Thats tuned way to high in my opinion - youd be better off with something closer to 35 or 40 Hz.

That link is a port calculator. Should help you out. Remember, the woofer itself really doesnt have much to do with the port other than the overall size being port area. Its a function of box volume.

I did that and it recommended like 4.5 x 28? I put in 1 10" driver, 10mm xmax, 1 round port, .75 cubic feet enclosure, 38 hz...

That can't be right can it?
