Down Fire Vs. Up fire?

hey every one, i have a up fire box right now, was wondering if a down fire box will create more bass.

And if there is a difference in sound why is a down fire better then a up fire?

thanks

Daniel

Every setup is usually a little different, best thing you can do is to try it yourself and see if you notice and improvment. My guess is you wont even notice a difference...

down firing loads off the floor. up firing loads off the seat bottom. the seat bottom soaks up some energy, but not much

I had wondered about this same topic a while back. From what I found out, firing down uses the truck floor (sturdier than the seat bottom) kind of like a baffle. Firing up into the seat bottom (absorbant), might deaden a little sound, creating less bass.

I have always wondered how much of a difference it really made though. Let use know what you find out.

My last truck was up firing and the box I just built is down. New one is a bigger and more powerful sub but hit's tons harder. Last one was a nice aftermarket HU and this one is running off of the factory one too.

what mic, was the mic placed correctly on the dash, and were the doors closed and windows rolled up

only reason I ask is because that number sounds a little high for 2 10's to be a legal on the dash score with a termlab

Either BS or those are some monster 10's. You said they don't even have the correct air space, so they aren't even hitting at their full potential. Must have put the mic inside the sub box instead of on the dash. Like 155db or 160db is permanent hearing loss.
I remember when the Pioneer F250 hit like 172db. That entire truck was a sub box filled with amps and comp. subs, and it was vacum sealed too. I think it had more than a dozen 15's. I don't think 2 10's can hit 140db.

actually 2 10s can hit 140, I've done it. I was hitting 141s legal on the termlab with 2 re sx10's... of course it took 1800watts and a 3 cube ported box to do it in a hatch
