What front door speakers do you have?

Hi all. I have a 2005 F150 Supercrew. I upgraded my system a year or so ago with the following:
Pioneer Avic Z1
Infinity 5 Channel Amp
MusicMoose dual sub box with 2-10's (Boston Acoustic)
Infinity component speakers in the front doors
Infinity speakers in the rear doors (not separate component)

Here is my question. I love the sound of my system other than the front door seakers. They are mostly a high pitched sound and have very little depth to them sound wise. I just really don't like them. I have tweaked the amp and head unit every which way over the last year trying to find a nice quality sound out of them and no luck. I am looking to replace them with another speaker that is not a separate component set. What do you have and what size are they. I want to replace them with no modification to the doors.

Any input would be helpful and appreciated! Thanks

I have the memphis M-class 5X7's. They sound pretty good. They have a crossover for the highs and mids but they are made as one unit w/ moveable tweets.

Or to me the ultimate coaxial, the Image Chameleons. Components that mount like coaxials. Gotta love em.

Thanks

Thanks for the input guys! I'll look into those 3 brands. I guess the Infinity Reference Series Componenets aren't all they are cracked up to be? I can't stand them personally after a years worth of trying to get used to them. I did buy them of of Ebay, so at least I didn't pay retail.

If I remember correctly, a 5x7 will mount right in the front doors, correct? Thanks again gentlemen.

I vote Alpine Type R in the front, Type S in the rear, I like mine, not high pitched really but will go nice if I ever decide to get subs. I was also told Polk Audio and Kenwood.

I like the Boston pro series, too. I think the tweeters are kind of harsh, but you can set a jumper on the crossover to tone them down. I am amazed at the clarity of them.

Hivoltage - where did you put your x-overs?

I had a local shop here in Va. (Myer-Emco) do my install. The sound quality is awesome! I got a Alpine W205 head unit with 2 JL Audio amps Boston pros all the way around, a IDQ10 Sub, Sirius hookup and iPod hookup. I also had the truck Dynamatted. I'm getting a backup cam next week. Can't wait!

After that? DVD headrest monitors. I figure, it's only money, right?

Newp. Im not sure why everyone is so giddy about them really
They are pretty poor speakers in my opinion...actually 'pretty poor' is kind of an understatement-just the best way I could explain them without some colorful language

5x7 is correct

I put the crossovers for my Infinity Speakers in the door under the armrest area. I used 2 sided tape and stuck them away in there. That was the easiest place I found to put them.

I am going with the Boston Acoustics or the Polk Audio's. Now I need to decide on 5x7 coaxial's or 6 1/2" rounds.

Alpine type R makes a nice set of 6.5 rounds that fit right into the stock location. I have a set of there 6x8 comp's in the front now but if I ever upgraded, I would get them. Alot of guys will say that the round speakers have a better overall sound with better midbass.

here is the link...

How come you say you dont want components? If the highs are too harsh then either you have them mounted in the wrong place or most sets have different tweeter setings to cut some db's.

Good luck...

The Bostons come with an adapter plate that fits in your stock 5x7 hole. Then you can mount the 6 1/2 rounds w/no problem. You need to dremel the stock tweeter hole a little to get the tweets to fit, but that's no big deal at all. I'm not sure if the tweets mounted axially will clear the door panel cover. They probly sound better up high, anyway.

I had my old x-overs under the armrest area, but the new ones are freaking huge, like a small amp. I'll have to see about taking the rest of the door panels off.
