Wiring for speakers

Does everyone just use factory wiring when able? I always have run heavier gauge speaker wires from the amp. Is it too hard to run through the door jams on the supercrew or is it just not worth the extra effort?

Its pretty easy if you have a piece of wire. The park brake assembly is a bit of a pain, but otherwise its good.

Some people use the stock wiring if they are running very low power. I usually suggest upgrading the wire if your amping, no matter what the power is. If its my own vehicle Im working on, I will even run new wire if Im just running a set of coaxials off a head unit. I dont like stock stuff

Thanks for the quick reply. My sentiments exactly on using better wire.
I've seen a couple pics of the speaker re & re for the 2004 (and up) Screw. I imagine the 2003 is fairly similar.
Did you change to round speakers with separate tweeters because the round ones are usually better quality for the money? What size are they?
I'm planning to use an MTX Thunderform Sub for behind the rear seat. I haven't decided on the speakers yet though. Did the '03 have 5x7" or 6x8" stock? Or would either fit?
Thanks!

The 03 should be 6x8 (According to our system at CC) the 5x7 would fit with a lil coaxing...but with a tiny gap= sound loss, especially bass response. You could get a set of 6x8's and get some tweets that come with a crossover system.
ditto on speaker wire replacement! if it's your own vehicle it's worth the trouble

Talking stock speakers...

Both 5x7 or 6x8 will work.

OK, Thanks. I'm considering the Boston Accoustics S85 right now.
As for speaker wire lengths....I used to always make sure each pair of speakers had the exact same length of wire. Is this still a good idea? Depending on where I mount the amp (under passenger seat or behind rear seat) one side could have a fair bit of 'excess' wire to hide.
