Factory sub

I know this probably has been covered, but I searched the threads and I can't find my specific answer. So....

I have an 06 SCREW Lariat with the 6 disc MP3/SAT radio. So I assume this unit will be able to use the factory sub. There is a wire is under the drivers side rear seat. I have not pulled the head unit out as of yet. I have a factory sub on the way that I got off of Ebay. I have seen plenty of threads regarding a reprogramming. But, these all seemed to have to do with the NAV radios. When it gets here is just plug and play for my situation?

Thanks for the help!!!

Nope !

Sorry Cowboy44 but I would say there is a 99.9999 % chance that it won't be plug and play. The only radios that work with the sub are the "Audiophile" units, they look just like the regular 6 cd version on the front but have three plugs on the back. So if by chance you got an audiophile headunit by accident from the factory, I say no chance it will work.

inless you already have one, you need to pick up an Audiophile Headunit as well.

Your truck is prewired for the sub, but your current headunit isnt hooked up to it. Just replace the Headunit with an Audiophile on, and then plug your sub in, and it should be all good.

I pulled the radio to check and I would assume it's NOT the correct radio. Only for the fact there are no open ports in the radio. I do have the plug under the back seat, but, I don't see where it is in the dash. I may just chuck the entire idea. But since I do have the sub I was considering finding an Audiophile radio. But, if the wiring isn't there in the dash, the hell with it.
What am I looking for in the dash????

Keep Looking !

Cowboy44,
When you pull the radio out, look inside to the left where all the wires for the stereo come from. You should see a grey harness that is clipped to a dummy plug attached to the metal brace on the left. Unplug it from the dummy plug, it should have four wires attached to it, that is your sub harness.
Sorry no pictures. Good luck.

If I were you, I would keep the factory sub and just hunt down an Audiophile head unit.

Angry I must be an idiot!!!

There is no harness or dummy plug...that I can see anyway. I definitley have the sub connector under the seat. I hooked up to the sub box.
So the sub box end of this is complete. I can not for the life of me find the one in the dash!

Does ANYONE have a picture of it!??!?!?!?

Try This!

Let's try this. Pull the left kick panel trim off, the one where the parking brake release is. You will see a huge loom of wiring going into a huge harness connector. Look closely at the wire colors and where they are located in the harness. They should be as follows ( starting from the upper lefthand slot down and then back up to the upper right for slot #17 )

Slot # 1 = dark green w/ violet
Slot # 2 = brown w/ red
Slot # 3 = red w/ black
Slot # 17 = black

These wires are for the harness from the back of the radio to that connector. If they are missing then you don't have the harness. But if they are there then you need to keep looking in the dash my blind friend

Thanks Matt! If they are not there...which the way this going for me, is pretty likely...do you know if the harness can added?

I think I lost a quart of blood digging around in that dash yesterday!!!!

Yep

You can buy the sub pigtail for the back of the radio from Ford.
I pretty sure the part number is 3U2Z-14S411-CAAA ( double check that part number as it has been mentioned here before, search sub+harness )

But it only comes with about 8" of wiring so you would have to make up the rest.

I would think if you have it at the back of the cab then it would be in the dash.

Did you follow the factory wiring in the dash back into the loom? There is an offshoot of four wires that dead end into that dummy plug. I would try and get some pics, but it means I have to take MY radio out.

Thumbs down I've had it!!!!

Matt;

Thanks for all of your help. I think I am chucking the entire idea. For all the trouble and time I have put into this so far and I still have no sub, it isn't worth buying the harness. And to boot I have broken two of the clips on the radio trim section. I looked at plug in the kick panel and I don't see the wires you described, so it looks like there is no harness behind the dash anyway.
What a waste of time this has been.

Don't give up! Just get away from it for a while.

When you're ready, take a look at this post.
