WOW. Has anyone made their own "custom" style box for the center console?

I've seen a few but I don't recall where. Possibly over on sounddomian.com or caraudio.com or here.

I built my own box for a kicker L7 10" and then changed it out for the 8" 4OHM DVC that I have in now. It's MDF, 0.35 cubic feet, and fits inside the existing console in my 01 Extended cab. I was and still am too cheap to pick up a $400 JL Audio STealthbox 10" setup. Mine is carpeted and recessed a little bit so I have not lost all storage space, just most of it. I would recommend reinforcing with padding/filler of some sort the sides of the console as they flutter a little bit around 60Hz and below because of all the air movement. Also, you have to cut out the carpet below the console. This makes it much louder and helps cool the sub. After all, who's going to see it?

Correction: $550 + for the JL 10". By the way, the Slobaric 8" L7 plays louder than the JL 10 W0 in their box too.

I am in the process of designing a subbox that splits my bench seat so I can fit some 15s and keep the seats.

I'll see if I can find the picture. I basically unscrewed the console and cut-fit pieces of MDF into the original console and cut the bottom out of it for the speaker to feed into the floor. Then I got rid of the heat shield fiber stuff under the carpet I cut out. It makes a huge difference when the speaker fires off the bare metal vs. dense carpet. Anyway, screwed and glued it all together, carpeted the top of the box, and plugged it in. I would suggest reinforcing the sides of the console as they wabble/waffle/rattle a bit when the sub hits. I guess the air buffets back up in there and causes that. I also hid a screw under my cup holders from the cup holder bottom into the top of the console so they don't rattle either. It's counter sunk, fits right in, and you can't tell it's there unless you're looking for it.

However, I will try to find those old "sub box project" pictures somewhere.

prior to the L7 Kicker, I had my round solobaric 10" in a box that I pieced together to match the exact dimensions of the original black plastic console liner. Also, my dad's 97 automatic f150 has a sub in a box on the floorboard in the middle under the a/c controls that butts up to the front of the bench seat. It looks really nice, almost normal if I didn't know better.

They don't make round solobarics.
