JL vs others

I'm about to build a dual 8W3V2 box. I know that the JL's are pricy, but I need two 125W 8's that are shallow and that can be wired as a 4 Ohm circuit. So my options are:

single-coil or dual-coil 2 Ohm
single-coil or dual-coil 8 Ohm
dual-coil 4 Ohm

I found RF and Kickers that foot the bill, I'm just curious as to what you guys think. JL is almost 2x the price.

I'm also concerned with excursion as this will be a down-firing box and I don't want the speakers slamming into the floor. RF P1S88 are spec'd at 1.6" and the JL 8W3V2 are .39". But then JL spec's theirs as "one-way", so does that mean that RF's are really 0.8" one-way?

The more I read the more I don't know what to do. So what the heck should I buy? Bring on the opions, please.

agreed. I only have my JL stealth but I have always prefered JL to rockford. I know there are other subs better than JL for cheaper. I just can't remember the brands. Maybe someone else can chime in.

Arc Audio makes an 8" sub that is awesome. Image Dynamics used to make a great 8" they are kinda hard to find. Both would be great alternatives to the JL and just as good if not better.

Bummer! Where did you find this out? I dig RF! I'm still using amps from 2002! I can't kill 'em!

As far as I can tell, nothing bigger than the 8W3 series will fit without a seat lift.

I'm going with two Polk MM2084 anyway. 4.25" top mount, 200W RMS, very tight excursion, 1/2 the $.

A 10W3 will fit. The W7 are too big.
