I can't send PM's yet, not sure why but I would love to talk about your box and how hard it hits and who did it. I want W7's in my 2007 Ford Harley when it arrives this month and that's the first truck I have seen with them. How much power you are using to push those bad boys, for me there is no other sub I would own than a W7 they hit hard. Others sound good and I have been on this board and see not everyone are big fans but I am.

I am open to use something other that the MB Quarts which I love because they are very high highs I was leaning towards there new Q216's which are close to 1500 a pair retail which I need fronts and rears so we will see but I want your sub set up info PLEASE.

I know Brypink has been super busy and has not got to frequent the board like he wants.

His 10w7 box was pretty awesome. He used a seat lift kit though to lift the rear seat. It is a kit a lot of us use from www.lmiwelding.com. There is no way to fit the 10w7 under the seat without a lift. He is not running those subs now. He has switched to a pair of 12" SI Mag's. Without a seat lift, he proposed and I think you could as well, a box like his for a pair of 8w7's.

He ran the 10w7's with one of his Zapco C2K 9.0 which probably was in the 2k watts range.

Hope that helps in his absense.

Do you know why he switched out of the 10W7's? Those things hit a ton though I would have only used a 1000/1 in 2000K range.
How did he fit 12's?
I would assume the only reason to do 8's over 10's is the lift correct? Is the lift an issue?
I have 8's now in my convert. Vette and they hit hard I but not as hard as my 1 10W7 in my 1003 F-150 Harley. Now the 8W7's are basically in the trunk behind the waterfall which I would assume tones them down a little and my 2003 fired down not straight so could that make that much of a difference? The 2 8W7's are used by the same 500/1 as the 10W7 was so ???? I want to go with a 1000/1 for the subs and 600 for the 4 doors though I am open minded.

Sound quality being the biggest reason he switched. The 12" Mag is an awesome sub. I have one powered with 900 watts and it sounds great. The Mag is 6.75" deep. One of the best subs available with such a limited mounting depth. The seat lift poses no problems other than you loose some headroom if tall people sit back their. I think a pair of 8w7's fired forward would pound plenty hard but, they would have to stick out from under the seat. That is another reason Brypink switched. The Mag box tucked in under the seat better, I think. In terms of pure output, the 10w7 and Mag would probably be pretty close but, I do not think the W7 can match the Mag for SQ. With 1,000 watts, I would not think that would be enough for a pair of Mags, a pair of 8w7's. Without a lift, the 8w7 is probably about as good a sub as you could get. Although, Styx is going to go with four 8" subs(not w7) under the rear seat without a lift. That should get plenty loud and sound good doing it.

The Mag is their top of the line. The new BM is suppose to sound just as good but, with less power handling. A pair of BM12's would do well with 1,000 watts.

Sorry, I haven't been around...my internet got screwed up this weekend when I switched from cable to Dish TV.

Anyway, I no longer have the W7s in my truck for a couple of reasons. 1) I like the cone area of a 12 over a 10.., 2) W7s are a bit sloppy compare to the MAGs I have now.., and 3) The only way to get the 10W7s to fit (with the seat) is a seat lift and the subs needed to be forward facing with no protection.

Dconder is right...I had them powered by one of my Zapcos 9.0s (2K watts). The MAG is an awesome sub...I'm happy with it and probably wont change while I have this truck.

On another note...Quart makes good components, but the tweets (QSD sets) were too harsh for my liking. Then again, I never really heard a car audio metal/hard dome tweeter I like. Plus, for the price...I would be all over a good set of Rainbows.

BTW, thanks Doug for looking out!

Give me a link for Rainbows but I love the HIGHS of the quarts. Do the MAGS hit as hard as the W7's because I have never heard something that compares to a W7.

Although the 12W7 is on my short list for favorite subs, W7s are by far the best. There are so many factors that dictate the SQ of a sub...build (sub), box design, power, placement, acoustical enviroment, etc. That being said...the MAG has been a proven winner in my book and I'm not the only one. MAGs have a huge following not only here but in the car audio scene too. It also depends what you are looking for as well...SPL, SQL, SQ. This also needs to be taken into consideration when weighing all the factors.

If it were me...I would be running dual IDMAX12s over any other sub on the market right now, but like the W7...they are too big to properly fit in my truck and still have a rear seat.

Rainbow makes a speaker that fits in everyone's price range...from $100+ to $3000+. Just depends with what you are looking for. Again, the Rainbows I'm running, I can't be happier with for now and don't plan on changing anytime soon.

Here's the link to Rainbow:

If you see something you like...get ahold of Don...aka 6spdcoupe...he'll take care of you.

After this being said...it ALL boils down to what you like and what sounds good to you. It is your money.

I would think the Profi Vanadium's with the metal tweet. I know my Germ's sound fantastic but, they have a soft tweeter. Brypink loves his tweeter but, it is laid back. Bartak has a set of Vana's and I think he has said the tweet is pretty bright.

Hopefully, Don (6spdcoupe) will see the thread and give his expert advice.

I wouldn't necessarily characterize the CAL27 as a "laid back" tweeter. It is very dynamic and accurate...very accurate! It can get loud and not lose it's accuracy...and not sound too harsh or bright either. Although, I like a more laid back tweeter and I'm happy with the CAL27...it is just "laid back" (if you will) enough for me. I do still tweak it down just a smidge though.

Doug, I never said it was laid back...did I? :o
