Working on Rainbows...

I have to say, deading doors is NO fun.... sound blocking mat is the easy part..

Got one rear door done and one front haft way...

deadened inside outer skin
installed 12" X 10" mat behind speaker hole
deadened outside inner skin
made 1/4" Lexan panel for the big hole, deadened it sealed it to the door with 5/16 round butyl
made 1/4" Lexan speaker plate, blacken it out
speaker is sealed with thin double sided tape and plate has thin double sided tape to the door also
then installed sound blocking mat

How am I doing so far, look like i'm doing it right...??

This is very time consuming, I had no idea...

Looks like your doing it right. Let us know what you think of it when your done. I'm thinking about changing out my door speakers again too. i have Memphis audios, and i think i might replace with componets, like MB Quart's

Done the other rear door today, put the fuse back in the EA2000 and fired up the SL's... don't want to give them full power for about 10 to 15 hours of playing for breakin....

All I can say so far is .....Holy Sh$t.... I had to make reach back and make sure the sub was off..... could ah fooled me.... midbass kicking, tweeters are clear as a bell, not harsh at all... vocals crystal clear... and this is just a cheap pair of Rainbow coaxial with 60w rms clean on them....

these Rainbow SL165, sound better than the Polks MMC650 ever did... I'm sure the added door prep has a lot to do with it.... I don't think the Polks could touch them even in a prepped door....

listening to the sound quality and tweeter output, there's no comparing the two... Rainbow wins hands down...

got to finish the front doors now... can't wait to hear the Germs, I can only imagine what they will sound like....

Yes, he's running the Germaniums up front. The ones he has in the back are the SLs.
