Replacement of stock speakers worth it?

I had a Pionner deck installed and the factory speakers sound quite a bit better than with the old factory deck. Would replacing my stock door speakers with some mid priced ($40-60) speakers add much more to the sound quality?

Also it looks like the grill in the doors is maybe for a 5x7 speaker?
Truck is a 1998.

Thanks!

Upgrading your speakers to ANYTHING besides factory is an improvement. Yes they are 5x7/6x8.

How involved is it to remove the door panel and will 5x7 mount in the same way as the factory?

Thanks!

I have a 98 too. The door panels come off pretty easy. All you need is a flat head screw driver to pry the plastic pieces up and a socket wrench to get a couple bolts. You'll have to take off the long plastic piece on the right going up the door and then the little traingle piece on the left. Then take the piece which holds the lock and window buttons off and there should be a little round piece of plastic to the left of the door handle. Pop it off and get a wrench to get the nut and then you can take the door handle off. Then simply pull the main panel off. It's a lot easier than it sounds. just be gentle Once you do one of the doors, the other should come off faster. And the 5x7 should mount the same way.

Uh...... there is absolutely no question about it. Improved speakers are like sex with a really reallly really hot chick. You didn't know it could be that good until you experienced it. Aftermarket speakers, even the somewhat cheaper ones make such a huge difference, you are not getting your money out of the head unit by playing factory speakers with it. I would also recommend a sub, or two. To fill in the deep notes. Good luck and enjoy

Ok thanks guys sounds like it will be worth doing.

And thanks for the panel removal details Patriottruck.

Oh one more question, would 6x9 fit in the doors? I found some Jensens for $40.

Answer is no, & you'd be better off to save your $40 for gas instead of buying some Jensens. You know the saying, you get what you pay for.
