Thinking about a 10w3v2

My buddy has a 12w3v2 in a Stealthbox and it sounds awesome. A little unclear for metal though, which is what I listen to so I was thinking about the 10". I believe RMS is 300 watts, so what would be a good mono amp for this setup? I have a regular cab and don't want it ridiculously loud so 1 sub is good for me. Would this sound pretty nice? Should I build my own box (it will be sealed)? Thanks for your help guys.

Yeah JL is great IMHO. There are plenty of single sub boxes out there, and get basically any mono amp that has 300RMS. Dont stick too much to that number, JL has .pdf files available that show the power ratings and they can take more then the standard RMS most of the time by a decent amount. Your not always going to run it at full volume, but more power is going to just help it sound cleaner at lower volume. eBay is a goldmine.

Notice that the stealthbox is ported, and will peak to whatever the box is tuned to, switching to a sealed box may remmedy that, but every vehicle may sound slightly different. What do you mean by unclear, exactly?

Well I think it may have been the speakers. He has a Silverado (yeah I know, POS) with the stock speakers and the Stealthbox. I'm thinking that's the problem. I have an Alpine HU and Alpine speakers and they are really nice and have a ****load of highs so mine would probably sound better. I thought the sub muddied up the guitars a bit too much, but he probably had it up too high (he listens to rap). Would it be better to go with a 12 than a 10? Thanks for your help.

I have 2 10inch jl 10 w3v2 i listen to rap but alot more rock and country. I personally would not get these agian. I would go 12 inch with a jl 500/1. If your interested im trying to get rid of my subs and amp and box. My amp is a memphis 16-1000d. The box is custom built to go under the back seat of an 04 supercab. I even threw in some poly fill just for the heck of it. Lemme know!

If your wanting to stick with JL, check out the 250/1. Pretty nice amps, dont let the 250 watt rating get to you either, those amps will easily do 300 or more watts.

There are tons of other amp there that will work nice.
Whats your budget, and what is the voice coil config. on that sub?

Subs

I have had lots of subs and I would go with 12's they seam to have the best of both worlds when it comes to subs. 10's are punchy and 15's are deep. You should have great sound when your done installing. Get yourself a powerful amp for that sub too. Memphis' are great. Good luck deciding.

JL audio is great, and I would highly recommend the w3s. With that said, I would recommend a 12". I have had 10"s, 15"s, even 8"s and none of them are as flexible as a 12". I had 2 12" w3v2s in my 03 screw and they responded good to rap, country, rock, etc... And man were they loud. They were being ran off of a PG 500 watt amp.

For an amp, I also would recommend Phoenix Gold. The 400.1 xenon setup is a bullet proof powerful amp. I had it running my 12w6v2 for a wihle untill i moved up for more power.
