The CEO of Elemental Designs says the subs can take 900 watts RMS for competitions (not everyday)...I wouldn't power it with more than 600 watts RMS for everyday driving.

I think a lot of people are fooled by the marketing of car audio by brands sold at BestBuy (RF, Lightning Audio, Sony, Pioneer, etc)...advertising their subs power at 1000 watts max. A lot of amps are marketed the same way.

I forgot to mention...If you can't get enough mounting depth from a down-firing box the spacer isn't going to help you because the sub will not have enough room for excursion. Have you looked into lifting your rear seat?

I think ill have enough room for the spacer. The last thing i want to do is raise my back seat. I looked at the box and it apperas that i should have enuf room!

Elemental's subs will definitely give you the bump your looking for. You can get two of them for $245 shipped directly from ED. I think they will work very well in a subbox.net downfiring box.

The e10k's are made for small enclosures & pack a lot of punch. A lot of people doubt the company because they have never heard of them...you can quote me when I say "there is nothing to doubt, these subs are awesome."

looked

Just came from thier site (Elemental's) thier stuff looks super - they have package deals - which I may end up doing - I have a Lightning so space is an issue and because of the small area I'm thinking one 10 or 12 will do it for me ... any comments would be appreciated ... So far I've been getting great advice and direction from you folks ...

A single 12 in the right box with the right power will do wonders in your lightning.

Buy Package Deal #1 and Recieve. 1 Avionixx AXA 400.2 Amplifier (400 watts) 1 Elemental Designs e12kD2 (4ohm ability matched to amp) Save $85 when buying Package deal #1.

I would still get the NINE.1 for the 12k's or the 8A's. The NINE.1 is cheaper than the Avionixx & you will have a lot more power. If you only want one sub then get the DVC 4 ohm so you will only be giving the sub 500 watts...then if you decide to upgrade to two subs later on down the road (get another DVC 4 ohm) you will have the amp to power them.

The 8A's are going to be some badass subs. I don't recommend them because the motor & magnet structure are supposed to be huge...too much mounting depth for truck applications (unless you have an x-cab and you are going to remove the rear seat).

For the box, if you can't build it yourself...you should have someone build it for you (use MDF). If you don't know anyone who can build the box then find a local shop that will do it for a reasonable amount. Shops like to charge a lot for custom boxes, personally I wouldn't pay more than $200 for a custom box, unless it was fiberglass.

I give you guys my word, if you buy the e12k's & the NINE.1 you won't regret it...you'll be thanking me.

Lightbulb

I've had two boxes in my truck, both with the same single ten inch sub. One fired down, and the one I have now fires rearward into the back wall of the cab. The down fire box sounded better, got deeper bass, and kicked harder than the rear fire. I don't know where you guys get this "sounds like crap" idea from,,,,98

Same amp, same sub, the only difference was the box?

Cool

I would expect a rear-firing sub to sound weaker than a down or front-firing sub.

You are experiencing audio phasing (or more accurately, out-of-phase bass cancellation), coupled with massive reflections, first hand.

If you plan on having drivers facing 180* from the listening area, it takes a special enclosure design to prevent out-of-phase sound... (Bose 901's are examples of speakers with intricate cabinet designs to allow for omni-directional driver placement).
