Houston Mechanic

took truck by Adam's Automotive on Blalock. Wanted $400 to change spark plugs and $250 to change coolant and install new tstat. this seemed sky high knowing that i can do both in 3 hrs or less. i just have to many house projects going on and don't have time. any suggestions for a mechanic? galleria area, bunkerhill/blalock & 10, or anywhere in between?

'preciate the help

Plugs should take 30 min if you've worked on a car before and have the right tools

I could probably do the coolant drain/refill and plugs in under 30 min

Agreed. It's not difficult stuff, have done it to every vehicle i've owned. but i've never owned a house too, pretty deep on my to-do list.

and the plugs and coolant were examples. also have front diff and tcase to change fluid, sway bar link, fuel filter

I found a AWESOME mechanic. I failed to mention Adams also wanted another $450 for a parking brake job, new pads and springs. So the total Adams "estimate" was $400 for plugs, $450 e-brake $250 coolant & tstat, and $80 for fuel filter = $1180. Oh and I forgot to mention, I had the plugs, tstat, and fuel filter in-hand. My new guy did it all for $220, that included $70 for ebrake parts. And he put all the old parts in the new boxes, which gives me the warm fuzzies that it was done (although I double checked when I got home). If someone needs a guy in Spring Branch area, PM me. **edit** AND, Adams made me leave my truck there for a day to crank out their "estimate", what a load of horse manure.
