Hello All,

As you poke around the photo galleries over the next few days, keep an eye out for some enhancements, including:

1) New page layout - much of the onus for this was a note from Google encouraging me to increase the number of 300x250 ad placements on the site...so with that in mind, I changed the layout of the photo page to include all of the details, rating box (no longer a popup), etc. into one section. I think the page looks better now.

2) User Comments - users can now leave comments about pictures. The permissions to do this are the same as the forum permissions for PM's, etc. I hope to add a facility to report abuse and give the album owner the ability to delete comments.

3) Album Cover Selection - a much requested feature, you can now select with thumbnail to use for the cover image of your album. To do this, select "Modify Photo Details" and click on the box for the picture you want to use. (if you select multiple, it will use the first one)

4) Album Sort Order - viewers can now sort albums by the user-default, picture rating, number of views or label.

5) Find Gallery by Username - I have replaced the drop-down box that brought the page loading time to a crawl on the gallery index page and replaced it with an alphabetical list of names. I think this is much more user-friendly and far more efficient.

6) Gallery Link - you can now link back to the gallery from an album.

I am also experimenting with an enhanced new main gallery index page that includes thumbnails. It's a bit slow right now, but I'd love your feedback.

 

awesome steve- nice changes! hey, the album sort order- is there a way that each user can set their default?

 

Hmmm, interesting idea...let me think about that.

that feature isn't working- well at least on my end- i browse for the photo i want from my hard drive, press update- wait a couple mins and it takes me to my main gallery page- but the cover is not updated

the reason i ask webm. is i have pics from day 1 in my gallery- if they could be chronological (up or down) then i can refer people to certain mods easier...

 

What you described is in no way like how I described how to do it in my third bullet.

 

yah balog he just said you can change the cover, not change the order. So like when you see the main gallery, those three pictures for each album could be changed out

 

ah yes- i just assumed when i was there editing my gallery name to match my user name that the browse thing was for the cover...

the modify photo details can let you change the individual album photo, but NOT your general gallery photo

patman you can change the order of the photos if you go into one of your galleries, on the right hand margin you can select what order you would like to view the images

 

You have been able to modify your gallery main photo since the day that the galleries launched. If you do not see the new image after uploading it from the "Edit" link above the existing gallery image, it is likely because the old version is still in your browser's cache. Click reload while holding the shift key down and see if that is the case.

 

yah okay, I might just have to get my gallery up to date now...

Hmmm, i changed the picture for 2 of my albums, now the link to those albums are gone. When I move my mouse over the picture, there's nothing to click on....

The unedited gallery works fine though.
