And, if someone here posts one on the exact year and truck you ask for, even better, but until then, the google search will show what you need to know..

Thanks
reason i ask is i want to know how low it hangs down thats why i want to see it on my truck or similar one i know with my luck it would be the first thing i rip off out wheeling lol

OIC. It is not much more than even the head of the the drain bolt on now. I have been under my 5.4 a few times but I forget about the drain plug position but I don't think it is straight down, I think it is at angle and not in front at any rate. Believe me, you should not have any problem with it being out too far. Go for it. Just don't get one with a nipple. These guys that want a nipple don't need a nipple and the nipple DOES stick out too much, so if you don't need the nipple you should not get the nipple.

Thanks

I put a Fumoto valve on my '09 last year. Great little device and would recommend. Only complaint is that it takes longer for the oil to drain out (smaller hole thru the valve). And don't bother with the nipple, it is not needed and would hang down lower. I've done 6 oil changes with it so far.

Low hanging nipples are no good.

Thought i would mention someone at my dealer in the service department (who apparently dosnt know all that much about vehicles) told me the oil should be changed every 7500 miles or 8 MONTHS!....Um, no, try 6 months at the max.

SHE was arguing with me about my 3 free service visits (oil change, tire rotation). Apparently the fine print of that contract says they have to be 7 months apart, or some bs about that. So since i need my oil changed at 6months from the last one...this one isnt free. No biggy i can do it myself, but thats some crap. O and i have to use the 3 free within the first two years. Got 1 year left and I have only used it for the first oil change, so im sure they will screw me out of the 3rd free visit.

Far be it from me to rekindle yet another oil change thread (let sleeping dogs lie etc), but here are some shots that show the Fumoto valve and how it fits in with the 5.4 underbelly and how it is protected from off roading etc blah blah blah that someone was worried about. It is safely nestled and will not get hurt.

BTW, the valve just happens to be installed pointing up, just happened that way as it tightened at that point, it can be sideways etc and still work fine.

Also, on the subject of the filter and the trouble many of us have had removing the factory-gorilla-installed one the last couple of years, the filter came off pretty easy on this 2010 vs my 2009. And, I got to it from the top reaching down and it was a snap without the fan blades being there. It helped to stand on a little one foot step stool. By going from top, which is easier on the 2010 cuz of the electric fan, makes it better than going from below, which is harder on 2010 cuz of that damn air dam thingy.

yes the valve is brass and as you can see if you had the nipple i really don't think another 1/2 in. would not make much of a difference on clearance. i have used the one with nipple and never had a problem . the fumoto i.m.o. is one of the best valves out there. JOHNWILL great pictures

john,
What year is the truck in the pic?

I have a '10 FX4 and noticed what looks like a tray that is below the drain plug. Haven't been under the front end yet to verify its exact location relative to the drain plug but in your pic this tray doesn't appear to be there.

All those drips of oil are exactly why you should get one. I'm so mad at myself for not having it before the first oil change. Thanks for posting the pics johnwill.

Order it and have it shipped to you so you can install it at the time of the first oil change. Then you have it installed for oil change 2, 3, 4, etc.
