I have had my SCREW now for 2 days and I too notice the thunk sound when going around 18MPH on the freeway or anywhere (living in San Diego you do less than 20 MPH on the freeway a lot)

It sounds like it is trying to shift too quickly or something. It sounds like it shifts into 2nd when I let off the gas and let it coast a little, but when I press on the gas again even if i do it gently, it will make that "thunk" sound. I would have to say that it is shifting back to 1st quickly and there may be some play in the shifting between 1st and second.

By forcing it into second gear, this would prevent it from slaming back down into 1st, therby getting rid of the thunk.

Now a few of you say that the chip dosen't help? If not then it sounds like a bit of play in between 1st and 2nd gear.

Please don't miss under stand me, in my above post I stated that the dealer fixed the "thunk" with an entire new engine computer.

At the bottom of my post I commented that maybe a chip (aftermarket) would also help the thunk. I put that in just for discussions sake.

After the dealer put a new computer in my truck it no longer "thunks" into 2nd gear. As a plus to having a new updated computer the truck also runs better.

Good luck

thunks

I get this thunk also, i really haven't bothered the dealer too much because my dealers service dept stinks at best. it takes too days just to get the interior fixed and a oil change. no kidding.

I also have a noise that sounds like it's the front end. its always when my wheels are turned to the right and happens in drive and reverse. the wheels don't have to be turned all the way either. they have brushed me off already saying they grease the steering stops but that didn't fix it. i also did a ride along but when i heard the noise either he didn't or he still thought it was the steering stops

I'm still waiting for my parts to come in (seat covers) for about a month now. my sales rep there is great, the service reps are cool, but getting work done there is insane. i get pissed off every time my truck goes there for something. i have 13,000 miles on my truck and have noticed these noises for some time now. my warranty might run out before they fix it.

sorry it took me so long to reply!

Yes I'm sure they replaced the computer because they couldn't get the truck started because of the security codes. 5 hours later and 4 removals (of the new computer) and re-installations (of the old computer) they got it to start! Its a long story! I will tell it if you want me to!

Good luck "Thunk-Busters"

curt73@aol.com,
If I were you, I would get the dealer to draw up something in writing that they tried to fix your problems and were unable.

This will turn out to be very valuable in the future if your warranty does expire before your complaints are resolved. You can then use this document as your defense if further issues arrise that are linked to the original complaints.

If the dealership is unwilling to draw up some paperwork like I mentioned then that will hopefully be an incentive for them to fix the damn thing now and circumvent future claims.

Just some thoughts,
DaveMan

Yea, I was hoping someone had a subscription to a site that gave all the text. You know what they say about knowing the answer to the question before it is asked...

I love to see the "deer in the headlights" look from the service writer when I give them the TSB and the fix. Priceless

usually when i even mention "tsb" at a service department, i get a befuddled look! tsbs are such a great asset to service departments, but i get a distinct feeling they'd rather fumble around in the dark for hours than turn on the light. if you know what i mean?!
