Anyone who installs 38 inch tires on a truck and worries about gas mileage has their priorities in the wrong place. Your mileage is going to suck no matter what gears you put in it.

Well lets see i know with 38" tire i get bad gas mileage i was just checking to see if it was going to be worse with 4.88 gears. So if your not going to say anything on here to help then keep your 2cents to your self

Hey man,

From an Rpm standpoint with 4.88's, your rpms will be allright on the highway. you will push about 2300 at 80mph. True your mileage will stink because of more rolling mass and being higher up, but to answer your question you will be all right. I've got 35's and 4.88's and my highway rpms are fine. It sucks gas down, but the solution is to just slow down a bit. Post some pics. Im thinking of going 38's, definitely 37's.

new guy, you won't get much help or make many friends around here if you keep up that kind of attitude.

glc has been here for a while and honestly, i think his post was dead on. I mean, you obviously aren't hurting for money, since you must have a decent lift to fit those tires, plus the cost of said tires, and you're considering getting gears (which you should have done as soon as you went over a 35" tire), so why be concerned about gas mileage?

Your mileage will always suck, the best you can hope for out of the gears is to get some of the lost power back, and hopefully save some strain on your drivetrain. To answer your question, you might pick up 1 MPG.

Sorry if i came across In a bad way towards anybody that is here to help thats not what i was trying to do by no means. Yes i do have a big lift on my truck and big tires but i bought it that way other wise i wouldnt have a truck with alift on it. I just want to save some money if at all possible on gas and gears.
